PHOTOS: Officials with the Stinnett Fire Department released information regarding a motor rollover that resulted in two Stinnett Volunteer Firefighters suffering injuries. According to an SFD Facebook post, on Saturday evening crews were headed to the "River Bottom Fire" near FM 2277 when two volunteer firefighters were injured in a wreck that caused their vehicle to roll over. Officials said both firefighters were able to remove themselves from the vehicle. SFD detailed that both firefighters were transported by Stinnett EMS to a hospital. The release states that one firefighter has been released, while the other one is being transferred to a different hospital for further treatment. Officials with the Texas A&M Forest Service report that the "River Bottom Fire" located in Hutchinson County has burned 43 acres and is now 100% contained. KAMR-TV NBC 4 AMARILLO VIDEO: Two people are displaced following a home fire that happened just after midnight Sunday on Moonlight drive near High Country Drive in Brazos County. 911 was notified of the fire around 12:30 a.m. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated, according to Brazos County Precinct 4 Fire Department Chief Joe Warren. Assisting on the scene were Brazos County Pct 2 VFD, College Station Fire Department, and Bryan Fire Department. The American Red Cross is assisting the people affected by the fire. KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN PHOTOS: Nasty green smoke filled the Waco Oriental Rug Company on Feb. 24, 1993, as a young Don Yeager and his fellow Waco firefighters entered the building, unaware of the peril that awaited them. With two years of experience, Yeager arrived with the first crew and paired with his captain to carry a hose into the building at 1101 Austin Ave. Another rookie firefighter teamed with an experienced firefighter to carry a second hose in. "My captain told me, ‘Don't let go of the hose,'" Yeager said. "We heard a crack overhead, as we pulled the hoses farther into the building," Yeager said. "Then came a boom as the ceiling fell in a V-shaped collapse." Along with other firefighters that day, Yeager dodged fate and lived to tell the tale. Now a retired battalion chief, he will join other former and current Waco firefighters and the public to celebrate 150 years of Waco Fire Department history, from horse-drawn to high-tech. WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD - METERED SITE Crews battled a wildfire and tank fire in Borger. The fire started before 5 p.m. at 1200 W. 10th Street. No evacuations were ordered, but people were asked to avoid the area "due to numerous emergency vehicles." Fire departments from Borger, Fritch, Stinnett, Crutch Ranch and the National Park Service all responded. According to the City of Borger/Hutchinson County OEM, the fire's progress was stopped around 6:10 p.m. Fire personnel and equipment will remain in area. KVII-TV ABC/CW+ 7 AMARILLO VIDEOS: Firefighters freed a young girl who was stuck in a storm drain for more than an hour outside an Arlington ISD elementary school Friday afternoon. Video from Texas Sky Ranger showed crews outside Swift Elementary School on South Fielder Road. An Arlington ISD spokeswoman said a student there fell into a storm drain at about 3:30 p.m. About an hour later, surrounded by first responders, the child was seen being freed from the drain. The student walked to a stretcher and was loaded onto an ambulance. Arlington firefighters say she was taken to a hospital to be checked out but did not appear to be seriously hurt. "The whole time she was in the storm drain, we had our crews down there and she was able to talk to us and respond," said Jeff Durand with Arlington Fire. KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH VIDEO: Dallas Fire-Rescue recognized 13 firefighter/paramedics for their roles in saving two lives within one week after both patients suffered sudden cardiac arrest. DFR also pointed out the fast action taken by people before they arrived. A former Dallas firefighter is crediting DFR with saving the life of not only his dad, but also his family's long-time housekeeper after they both suffered sudden cardiac arrest within one week. "Our members train daily for these types of situations, and those critical times, it counts," Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Dominque Artis said. Artis set the tone for a reunion, as Robert Black and Winnie Turner thanked their rescuers for giving them a second chance at life. "I'm very thankful I am still here today," Black said. "I was doing dishes and I collapsed, and I had no symptoms prior. My wife heard me fall and came to my rescue." KDFW-TV FOX 4 DALLAS |

Officials said Sunday that a five-alarm fire that ripped through an ambulance depot in Freeport was not considered suspicious. The massive fire broke out Saturday at an ambulance service building on Commercial Street and left a shell of structures and damages. Video captured plumes of black smoke billowing into the air. Officials said four first responders were injured, two of which were Freeport firefighters, and one was a Northwell medic. All four were treated with smoke inhalation and later released from the hospital. A third firefighter was treated at the scene for a minor facial injury. The Nassau Fire Marshal's Office confirmed to News 12 Long Island that the fire started in one of the ambulances and spread to others. Oxygen cylinders stored in the building and some acetylene tanks that are used for repairs further fueled the fire. NEWS 12 LONG ISLAND Americans are renewing their focus on railroad safety after a string of recent derailments, especially two fiery ones involving hazardous chemicals in Ohio and Minnesota that prompted evacuations. Federal regulators and members of Congress are urging railroads to do more to prevent derailments. They want standards for the trackside detectors used to help identify equipment problems, more notice to states about hazardous chemicals they are hauling, and at least two people at the helm of freight trains. A Senate bill would toughen the penalty for safety violations to up to 1% of a railroad's annual operating income and set standards for the maximum length and weight of freight trains, which have grown significantly in recent years. Trains now routinely stretch beyond two miles (3 kilometers) long. WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD - METERED SITE Semiautomatic gunfire echoed in the hallways of The Covenant School, making a distinct noise teachers there would not soon forget. That was more than 14 months ago – before three children and three adults were gunned down on Monday in the stately stone school connected to Covenant Presbyterian Church, atop a tree-shrouded hill just south of downtown Nashville. The active shooter training session ended with live gunfire intended to familiarize school staff with real gunshots if they ever heard them. "Blanks don't sound the same. They just don't," said security consultant Brink Fidler, whose firm conducted the exercise. A bullet trap the trainers wheeled around captured the rounds of a semiautomatic pistol and an AR-15-style rifle loaded with real ammunition. When a handful of teachers heard the very first shot of Monday's rampage they initially mistook it for the din of ongoing construction at the building. CNN |
