VIDEO: The Houston Fire Department responded to a large mulch fire that sent heavy smoke into the area in northwest Houston on Sunday afternoon, according to officials. The fire was located at the Living Earth landscaping facility in the 5800 block of Crawford Road. ABC13 has previously covered another fire at the same landscaping facility in February earlier this year. According to HFD, there were approximately 100 firefighters on the scene trying to contain the flames. In an update, Houston fire officials said the fire was contained but expect firefighters to work overnight to ensure it does not grow again. Officials did not elaborate on how the fire began but said arson does plan to conduct an investigation. Houston fire officials told ABC13 there is no concern for air quality, but it will be monitored overnight as a precaution. There were no injuries reported.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Beaumont firefighters spent Sunday night battling a two alarm blaze at an abandoned electrical warehouse not far from MLK Pkwy and Calder Ave. Firefighters were called to the fire at the former West Buford Electrical Supply in the 800 block of Gulf St. just before 8 p.m. according to Beaumont Fire Chief Earl White. The building, a block west of MLK Pkwy at the corner of Gulf St. and Harrison Ave, is a total loss according to White. Eight fire engines and two ladder trucks responded to what the fire chief described as a "big fire." At least one firefighter was sent to a Beaumont hospital to be checked out because of the heat White told 12News. The fire department had electricity cut off in the area of the fire White said.

VIDEO: Firefighters battled a heavy fire at a home on the south side which hit power lines, raining sparks down on the crews fighting the fire early Monday morning. SAFD was called out to the 400 block of E Mitchell Street near Roosevelt Ave around 1:22 a.m. for reports of a structure fire. Arriving units found a heavy working fire in a detached structure on the back of the property. That fire spread quickly to the home. At one point, firefighters had sparks raining down on them as the flames hit the power lines above the fire. The flames began shooting from the roof, and an SAFD official said the stairs inside the structure collapsed, which made it hard to access the fire in the attic. Two hours later, the home was still burning. No word on what may have caused the fire or the amount of damage it caused.

Five people were killed and several others injured in a house explosion Saturday in Plum, a suburb of Pittsburgh. The explosion destroyed three structures and damaged at least a dozen others, authorities said. A person who was initially unaccounted for after the explosion was among the five dead, officials said Sunday. Police have not yet publicly identified the victims, but officials said one of the victims was an adolescent. A little before 10:30 a.m. Eastern time Saturday, 911 dispatchers received a call that multiple houses were on fire due to an explosion. Responding officers and firefighters arrived to find "people trapped under the debris," Allegheny County officials reported. Four people were initially confirmed dead in the incident, Allegheny County officials reported on social media. The fifth fatality was confirmed during a Sunday press conference.

PHOTOS: New Bedford Fire Chief Edward F. Dahill changed the way firefighters fight fires. Dahill dedicated 59 years of service to the department from 1888 to 1947, and left behind an invention that made an extremely difficult job less difficult for all firefighters. He invented the first aerial ladder hoist, called the Dahill hoist, in 1902. Larry Roy, director of the New Bedford Fire Museum, said Dahill's invention really made a difference when it came to firefighting and helped save time and save lives. Before Dahill's invention, firefighters had to manually raise the ladder out of the bed of the fire truck. Born in New Bedford in 1862, Edward F. Dahill joined the New Bedford Fire Department in 1888 when he was 26 years old. He served as chief of the department from 1904 to 1947. He left his job as chief at age 85 due to mandatory retirement.

VIDEOS: A Maryland man led police on a wild chase from behind the wheel of two different trucks and then a stolen ambulance Saturday afternoon, striking multiple vehicles across three different highways, police said. The suspect caused a multi-car crash on I-395 in a stolen truck before stealing an ambulance that was responding to the scene. While in the stolen ambulance, he struck at least 13 other vehicles, and rammed a state trooper's cruiser, authorities say. The chase zipped from I-66 to I-395 to the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Virginia and then back onto I-395 and into the District, where the driver was arrested after a final head-on crash. Virginia state police identified the suspect as Darell T. Caldwell, 30, of Brandywine, Maryland. He is facing federal and local charges, and state charges are pending, authorities said Saturday night.
