2 people injured in Webster apartment fire, Fire Marshal's Office says; Crews work to battle the flames VIDEO: Fire officials say two individuals have been taken to the hospital after an apartment complex caught on fire in southeast Harris County Saturday afternoon. According to the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office, the fire broke out in the 2800 block of west Bay Area Boulevard. HFCMO says the two people were transported to HCA Clearlake in stable condition for precautionary measures. As of Saturday afternoon, the fire had reportedly been contained to just one building. Leslie Bristol saw the fire and jumped into action. "I parked my car and put on my hazards. As I'm calling 911, I'm banging on doors and telling people it's a fire and you need to get out," she said. Bristol said she rescued a few pets and thankful she was able to help out. KSAT-TV ABC 12 SAN ANTONIO Grand Prairie Fire Department prepares for flash flooding VIDEO: Grand Prairie Fire Department's swift water rescue team is prepared to handle any potential flash flooding emergencies this week. Rain chances are in the forecast. But the ground is incredibly dry, which makes it slow to absorb water. In fact, North Texas is on track to record one of the driest years on record. "It only takes about six inches of moving water to sweep an adult off their feet and carry them down stream," GPFD Battalion Chief Joe Harvey said. Harvey added that our area typically sees about 70 flash flood events every year. GPFD told WFAA its swift water rescue team is made up of around two dozen members and four boats: Two have a motor for rescues in fast moving water and the other two are for emergencies in still, high water. WFAA-TV ABC 8 DALLAS Killeen Fire Department wins again in blood-drive competition with Police Department The Killeen police and fire departments competed in the fourth annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive on Thursday, and the Killeen Fire Department has won this year's competition, officials announced Friday. City officials said in a news release Friday that both groups saw nearly double of blood donors this year. The City of Killeen partnered with Carter BloodCare for the second year in a row, bringing in the organization's biggest, single-day collection in Bell County this year, the release said. "We thank the community for their support and encourage everyone to continue to participate in future blood drives," officials said in the news release. According to the release, there were 92 units of blood collected from 98 donors. That means 276 lives can now possibly be saved and the blood remains local in Bell County, city officials said. Explosion after explosion: Massive fire at Massachusetts boat yard destroys buildings, cars, boats Crews battled a massive fire Friday afternoon that has destroyed buildings, cars and vessels at a boat yard in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. At least one person was hurt and an unknown number of firefighters suffered minor injuries, officials said. The fire broke out at about 2 p.m. Friday at the Mattapoisett Boatyard on Ned's Point. The brother of an employee and witnesses told WCVB there was a series of explosions before the flames and black smoke consumed the entire property. "All of a sudden, black smoke. Thick, thick, thick black smoke. So, we sat there for a while, and we just kept hearing bangs — explosion after explosion. I mean, in an hour, there had to have been 50 explosions just going off and off," said one witness. When Sky 5 arrived over the scene, multiple buildings, several boats and about two dozen cars were in flames or burned-out shells. WORLD RECORD ACADEMY 'I call them family': Georgia fire department helps teen fight for his dream VIDEO: 18-year-old Garry Mitchem has always dreamed of becoming a firefighter for Baldwin county. His disability doesn't stop him from achieving that dream, or helping his community. "I love this fire department, I love Milledgeville, I love both the county and the community," he said. He also said he's the fire department's biggest fan, and he his love for it comes from his dad. "He was a firefighter from Dekalb county from 1966 all through 1997," Mitchem said. Garry wants to follow in his dad's footsteps, but in the mean time he spends his time listening to the fire department scanner. "Every time there is an accident or a fire, I post online to let the community know when a call comes out for an accident or a structure fire, or any type of fire," Mitchem said. Garry has Prader Willi Syndrome, which is a rare genetic disorder that causes physical, mental, and behavioral problems. Created by Fire Director Kenneth Douglas and lead instructor Brian Roberts, the Trenton Fire Department set out to make a program that pushes kids past their comfort zones but also gives them skills and experience that can benefit them long after the summer program ends. "He didn't just want to run a summer camp, he wanted it to be a Junior Public Safety Academy," Roberts told The Trentonian. "The kids come in here and they learn, but they also have a good time in the summertime." Now, New Mexico State Police has shared video of the chase and the arrest that followed. "We were very concerned for the safety of people, and its lights and sirens are going," said Tanya Lattin with the Corrales Fire Department. "We were very concerned about the possibility it might try to drive down the wrong side of the road." More than an hour west of Albuquerque, Laguna police deployed stop strips and finally got the driver to pull over into a gas station parking lot.
