Amarillo firefighters battled two fires over the weekend. The first occurred at 2:07 p.m. in the 900 block of S. Polk Street. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a home with fire and smoke coming from the windows. The home was vacant and had several windows boarded up. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and found no occupants inside during a search. The Amarillo Fire Marshals Office responded to investigate. Officials said a second fire took place this morning inside a garage in the 100 block of N. Florida Street. Firefighters were called just after 2:00 a.m. and upon arrival found a garage with heavy fire showing. Crews quickly brought the fire under control, and there were no exposures to other areas. The occupants of the home were not there at the time of the fire. AFD said this fire is still under investigation.

PHOTOS: A teenager who survived 25 minutes without a pulse finally got the chance to meet the Amarillo firefighters who helped save his life. "Today we finally got to meet the firefighters from Station 13 who were critical to Jakin's care!" said Carrie Mashburn, Jakin's mom. "We are so thankful for them and what they do!" Jakin Mashburn stopped breathing and collapsed Feb. 8. He defied the odds, surviving despite not having a pulse for 25 minutes. In March, he got to meet the paramedics who performed CPR and shocked him five times on the way to the hospital. Jakin also got to thank a nurse who was instrumental in his recovery. Three months after the incident, Jakin finally got to meet the rest of the first responders who are responsible his survival. "Be sure to thank your local first responders! Their job is not easy!, said Carrie.

The El Paso Fire Department is preparing for a potentially life-threatening monsoon season. A person can drown in less than 60 seconds, so Fire Captain Brandon Kovach said time is of the essence when they get called out to a water rescue. "We do training on a monthly basis, and we also prepare every year by sending nine members to swift-water training, it's a three-day course, eight hours, that way each member is up to date with their swift-water training. Currently we have 18 members on the team," Kovach said. "We are preparing especially for the monsoon season, last night we had that little freak storm that came through, and that's just something that we always pay attention to." We've seen it here in the borderland during monsoon season, people stranded in their vehicles after driving through flooded roads.

PHOTOS: First responders showed up on short notice to help lift the spirits of an 8-year-old boy who was badly burned in an accident. Brantley Parrish suffered third degree burns over 41-percent of his body on April 1. He's been undergoing treatment in the burn unit in Lubbock ever since. Brantley was released from the hospital Friday. On Monday, he'll go to Shriners Children's Texas in Galveston for two weeks for rehab. On the way home to Canyon for the weekend, Jennifer reached out to ABC 7 to see if we knew anyone who could meet them at Walmart with fire trucks to boost Brantley's spirits. We put them in touch with the Canyon Fire Department which went above and beyond the call of duty. When the Parrish family arrived 45 minutes later, they were greeted by not only the fire department, but also the Canyon Police Department, Randall County Sheriff's Office and BSA Ambulance Services.

Five buildings were destroyed during a fire at a former cereal factory in Orange Saturday. According to State Fire Marshal's Spokesperson Jake Wark, crews were called to 16 West River Street at around 11:45 a.m. Saturday for reported smoke and flames at the vacant mill building. Four additional buildings were also on fire, including one on East River Street. On March 29th the old cereal factory building was considered a danger due to structural concerns. The fire department closed a section of West River Street to vehicles and pedestrians due to glass and brick falling out of the building onto the street. West River Street at the intersection of Route 122 remains closed, a detour will remain in place until further notice. Residents are asked to use caution in the area.

VIDEO: Dispatchers in Volusia County can now see an emergency in real time using a video 911 system the sheriff's office unveiled this week. Sheriff Mike Chitwood said they're just starting to use it and an incident on Thursday is a great example of when Volusia residents would need it. Witnesses driving on I-4 Thursday afternoon called 911 and took video of a minivan that was swerving into the shoulder, the other lane, and even the median. "The motorists actually slowed down to prevent any cars from going near him as they were calling 911 and filming it," said Chitwood. The sheriff said deputies arrested the driver on DUI charges, and witnesses sent their videos that they recorded to investigators afterward. "I want to use this as an opportunity to hammer home on a new technology that we just started using a week ago called Carbyne," he said. Assistant communications director Glenn Lopez said it starts with a typical 911 phone call and if it's an active situation, the dispatcher can engage a video call.

Indianapolis firefighters stopped a man with a knife who attacked them after chasing a woman into an east side fire station on Saturday. At around 1 p.m., a firefighter was backing his fire department vehicle into a bay at IFD Station 11, located at 1715 E. Washington Street near Southeastern and South State avenues, when a woman ran past the vehicle and into the station. According to IFD, the woman was in "obvious distress" and yelled that a man was chasing her. That's when the firefighter got out of his vehicle and saw a man running toward the station. The firefighter stepped in front of the man and told him to stop, but the man became aggressive and shoved the firefighter up against the vehicle, injuring him. The engine crew, who were in the kitchen cleaning up from lunch, heard the commotion in the bay and went to see what was going on. They found the man holding the woman with a knife clearly visible in his hand.

PHOTOS: Iterations of Last Chance, Clayton's fire boat, have been serving the north country for over 60 years, going where fire trucks can't go. As Clayton Fire Department treasurer and boat Capt. Justin Taylor boarded the boat recently, his pager went off, his phone sounded, and the fire whistle blared through the streets of Clayton. The department was requested to be on standby for an incident on Wellesley Island. Within minutes, seven Clayton firefighters arrived to the boat along with four emergency medical technicians from Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service, ready to respond to the scene. After a few minutes, the Clayton fire boat was disregarded and shortly after, the firefighters and EMTs began to disperse. Nearly every American, the CDC says 97%, has some level of "forever chemicals" in their blood because they are found in so many household products. Now, scientists in Arvada are making it easier for you to test your levels at home. PFAS, or perfluoroalkyl substances, are commonly known as forever chemicals because they can build up in the body over time. Experts say they can cause a host of health problems, including cancer, reproductive issues and developmental effects. Scientists with EmpowerDX have developed a new, first of its kind, at-home test that allows you to test your PFAS blood levels with just a finger prick. The global laboratory company Eurofins analyzes the samples you take at home and uploads your results to a private online portal. Scientists at a Eurofins lab in Arvada have been studying PFAS closely.
