VIDEO: Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) had difficulty maneuvering around various barriers to get to victims involved in Saturday's Sixth Street shooting. The union president said their response would have been faster with a unit stationed downtown. "We have seven patients," first responder audio said. "We have one CPR in progress. We need an ambulance up here. We are about to load them up in a cop car otherwise." Audio from first responders detailed the moments where Austin police sprung into action, rendering aid to the Sixth Street mass shooting victims. "At this point, we believe all patients are being transported by APD officers," the audio continued. ATCEMS said it was difficult to get to the victims because they had to maneuver around barricades that closed off Sixth Street and corralled the large chaotic crowds.  

Port Neches Fire Department members worked for hours Sunday in crash response and gas concern at 12th Street & Magnolia Avenue. Firefighters learned from the propane company that the propane cylinder damaged during the vehicle collision was filled in the last couple days. "With this knowledge, the crews attempted to shut of valves and plug damaged sections without success," a fire department statement read. "Firefighters will continue to suppress the vapors using hose lines until the tank has been fully emptied of its contents." Responders found a 1-ton propane cylinder located at Young's Tobacco showing signs of damage. On Sunday evening, firefighters were rotating shifts to continue operations and give relief rehabilitation to onsite crew. The water suppression will continue to suppress any flammable vapors to keep from igniting.  

Four people were injured Sunday afternoon in Fort Worth after a vehicle struck a MedStar ambulance that was responding to an emergency, officials said. Matt Zavadsky of MedStar said the ambulance had its lights and sirens on when it was hit at an intersection on Hemphill Street. The crash caused the ambulance to tip onto its side. Three MedStar crew members and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. "This is a good reminder of the need to be continuously aware of emergency vehicles and the dangers of red light and siren responses," Zavadsky said. Further details have not yet been released.  

A Beaumont church caught on fire after an SUV ran into the building Friday night, according to Beaumont Fire and Rescue Chief Scott Wheat. It happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of Concord Road and Delaware Street in Beaumont. Records show the fiery incident happened at Holland Missionary Baptist Church. When crews arrived, fire fighters were able to stop the fire within minutes. Wheat tells 12News the fire was small, but one man was taken to a local hospital as a result of the crash. He is expected to live. 12News crew at the scene saw the maroon SUV and a truck that appeared to be wrecked. The SUV was also seen being towed out of the church. Details are limited at this time. No additional injuries have been reported as of Friday night.  

Carrollton Fire Rescue (CFR) received a $66,000 grant from the Metrocrest Hospital Authority for new portable Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machines to be implemented in all Carrollton Public Works vehicles and at three city parks. The check was presented in an informal ceremony on Monday at CFR's Fire Administration Building. "To my knowledge, Carrollton will be the only city in the country to implement AEDs in all police vehicles, city facilities, and now in all Public Works vehicles," Carrollton Fire Chief Gregg Salmi said. "CFR currently has 88 AED units deployed throughout the city. The grant will add another 52 for Public Works vehicles and three for the Carrollton Parks & Recreation Department."  

Converse residents will see an increased cost for EMS services after City Council approved a request from the city's fire chief to update its lagging fee structure. "Converse EMS fees are currently well below the industry standard," Fire Chief Luis Valdez explained to council during its May 18 and June 1 meetings when discussing a proposed EMS rate increase. "Like everything else, we're seeing a massive increase of costs for medical supplies." Advanced life support (ALS) response will increase from $950 per call to $1,400. Basic life support response per event, currently charged at $720 and $690 in non-emergency situations, will increase to $1,100 and $1,050 each run. TNT, or "treat-no transport" fees, are going to $175 from the current $100 fee.  

An explosion close to Rockton, Ill. took place at a chemical plant Monday morning. Large flames from the Chemtool plant caused heavy smoke to cover the air in the area. A mandatory evacuation order is in place for parts of the area, according to the Rockton Police Department. Rockton Fire ordered the mandatory evacuation, and the notice affects all residents and businesses south of the plant on Prairie Hill Road. Traffic is advised to avoid the area, according to Rockton police.  

An Evansville firefighter was injured on Saturday while responding to a home for a man not breathing, according to an affidavit filed by an Evansville Police Department Officer. According to the affidavit, the incident happened Saturday afternoon at a home on Ridge Knoll Drive in Evansville, Indiana, after Evansville Dispatch received a call about a man not breathing. Members of the Evansville Fire Department were first to arrive at the home. The affidavit explains that a firefighter knocked on the door of the home but that no one answered. The firefighter said that he could hear people inside and that he heard a "very disturbing scream" from inside the home. After opening the interior door and announcing "Evansville Fire Department," the affidavit says a hand grasping a large kitchen knife reached out from inside the door, puncturing him in the face near the nose.  

VIDEO: Some firefighters from all over the US competed with Rapid City firefighters in a race. The race is called the firefighter combat challenge, and puts physical feats in the job description to the test. The Rapid City Regional Firefighter Combat Challenge Organizer, Bill Cina, says it seeks to makes sure those on the front lines battling the flames are in tip top shape. "This course started 30 years ago with Dr. Paul Davis back in Maryland. They were coming up with a way to test firefighter fitness. An agility test to set as a standard for what firefighters should be at," says Cina. Firefighting requires vigorous, intense, physical effort on a near daily basis, and the challenges during the race simulate the real deal. Not before long, the race got competitive.

A retired firefighter from Boynton Beach is doing his part to combat the opioid crisis. Luis Garcia has traveled across the country offering free first aid classes and giving away free Narcan through his nonprofit, USA Opioid Crisis Mortality Reduction." In the last four years, he's donated more than 6,000 doses -- saving 95 lives, according to Garcia. On Saturday, he partnered with Sol Oasis Yoga Studio to offer his classes and give out more of the life-saving medicine. "Narcan should be carried by anybody. Really, it's no different than a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, a smoke detector, an epi-pen, a defibrillator, so I encourage people who are willing to be a Good Samaritan to carry Narcan," Garcia told CBS12 News. Studies show opioid overdose is one of the leading causes of death for Americans under the age of 50.
