PHOTOS: At only 40 years of age, Fritch Volunteer Fire Chief Zeb Smith fought his last battle with fire on March 5, 2024. The well-loved firefighter was known in the community and elsewhere as a friend, community leader, father, husband, son and brother to many. He had been fighting the largest wildfire in Texas history, with other firemen who came in to help, when a fire broke out in a home in Fritch, where he was found unresponsive. At his memorial held Saturday at Grace Fellowship in Borger, firefighters from across several states and nearby, along with police and other law enforcement officers, lined the streets and crowded into the church to pay their last respects to the young hero. The dedication to honor Smith was so strong that people began to show up at 8 a.m., according to those helping at his memorial, which was held at 11 a.m.

The bodies of four people were discovered inside a Texas home that was engulfed by flames on Friday, officials said. Firefighters in San Antonio were called to a house fire just after 11 a.m. on the city's south side. They tried to put out the blaze from the outside "but there was so much fire" when they got there that they focused instead on protecting neighboring homes, said San Antonio Fire Department spokesperson Joe Arrington. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters went into the home and discovered the bodies of four people. Investigators believe the victims were the four family members that lived in the home. "It's a very dark day for the fire department here," Arrington said. The names of the four victims were not immediately released by authorities. Arrington said it did not appear that any of the victims were young children.

A fire erupted within Lakeside Apostolic Church on FM 92 near Town Bluff Saturday afternoon, prompting a response by multiple fire departments in order to combat the blaze. Dam B Fire Department got a call about the burning church at around 1 p.m. and quickly sent out trucks to handle the situation. They were met by the Beech Grove, Tri-Community, Spurger, and Woodville Volunteer Fire Departments who had arrived to help quell the flames. Chief Mark Holcomb of the Dam B Fire Department said that while there were thankfully no injuries, the church building itself is unfortunately a "total loss" because of the damage it sustained during the fire. Chief Holcomb also said that he is extremely thankful to the surrounding fire departments that showed up to help, as well as the community members that came out and were doing things like handing out water bottles to the firefighters.

PHOTOS: Fire crews spent much of this weekend battling a stubborn brush fire in Liberty Hill. The fire broke out Saturday in a pile of mulch in the area of Ronald Reagan and FM 3504. Liberty Hill firefighters responded and got backup from Georgetown crews as well. Smoke from the fire could be seen in Cedar Park and northwest Austin on Sunday morning. As crews continued to douse the fire, no injuries were reported. No word yet on what caused the fire.

PHOTOS: Crews responded to a warehouse that was engulfed in flames Sunday afternoon, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District announced. The warehouse is located at 1200 4th St. where heavy smoke was seen coming out of the building's roof. The warehouse was vacant at the time of the fire, officials said. No injuries were reported. Crews were on scene for "several hours" in response to the fire. Video from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District shows crews extinguishing the fire. County fire officials first tweeted about the fire at 4:24 p.m. on Sunday. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and will be under investigation.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A West Warwick fire engine crashed through a station on Sunday. Officials said no one was hurt. Station 2, located at 834 Main St., was roped off with crime scene tape. According to West Warwick Battalion Chief Eric Norberg a door on the side of the truck popped open as the fire engine was leaving the station on a call. "It's under hydraulic springs or pistons. When they left it was closed, and when they started to proceed on the emergency response it did open," Norberg said. As the truck moved forward it continued to pull on the side of the building, so the driver stopped to lessen the extent of damage. According to Norberg the overhead garage door also came down on the truck, but officials said it suffered little damage and although it was taken out of service, they expect it to be operational soon. Station 2, where the accident happened, is one of four in town, so the rescue truck normally house at Station 2 has been temporarily moved to the Natick Station about a mile away.

VIDEO: One person was taken into custody after an ambulance was stolen overnight in north St. Louis. There was a very quick and sizable response from the authorities after the incident happened. City police were able to track down the stolen ambulance and take a woman into custody. It all happened about 2:30 a.m. It is believed that the city dispatched the ambulance in response to a call regarding a potential psychiatric patient in the 2800 block of Arlington in north St. Louis. We're told that moments after the medic crew arrived at that call, the ambulance was stolen. The police immediately started trying to find it through a GPS tracking device on the ambulance. Officials gave information from that device to officers in the field.
