VIDEO/PHOTO: The Bryan Fire Department added a much-needed truck to its fleet Friday. City leaders were in attendance to "push" it into Bryan Fire Department District 1 Station. The push-in ceremony is a tradition that dates back to the 18th century when firefighters physically pushed their wagons into the station. With this second truck, BFD Public Information Officer Chris Lamb said they'll be able to respond better to emergencies. "Before this ladder truck, both cities were having to back each other up with ladder trucks when we had a big structure fire, or we had a high-rise rescue. Being able to have this added capability to our city gives us two ladder trucks within our city," Lamb said. Bryan Fire Department says they are thankful to have another necessary resource added to their division. KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN A fire at a senior living community in Arlington sent three people to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The Arlington Plaza community near 6800 West Poly Webb Road had to be evacuated on Sunday morning during the incident. "When I came out the front door I could see the black smoke coming up from over there," said resident Dave Boyles. Boyles was in his room at the independent senior living community when he heard the noise: a runner came in off the street with an urgent warning for residents. "They had come in the front door and they were sitting there beating on all the doors going down the hallway," said Boyles. "So I looked out in the hallway and they said there's a fire, there's a fire." The fire alarm was pulled, and when firefighters arrived they saw the balcony of a second-floor room going up in flames. KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH VIDEO: Firefighters from Texas spent the weekend training in East Texas in order to serve their citizens better. As part of emergency preparedness month, firefighters from across Texas gathered at Rusk County ESD-1 for training. "Rusk county firefighters association put together a training on tender operations. Moving water from hydrants, static water sources, ponds, pools, to a fire location," says Rusk County Fire Marshal Patrick Dooley. While it might sound rudimentary, there are sometimes challenges in getting water to a fire. "Our firefighters understand the need to be able to utilize static water sources out in the county rural water areas, because we don't have municipal water sources like the cities have. We have to have ways to get it to the fire. We had 6 -to 7 tenders sitting out there that were shuttling water out of Lake Forest Park in Henderson," Dooley says. KLTV ABC 7 TYLER |

A 5-alarm fire damaged multiple buildings, snarled traffic and caused the light rail to suspend operations for hours Sunday in downtown Baltimore. Crews responded to a building fire around 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of Lombard and Eutaw streets, just hours before the Orioles hosted a game at nearby Camden Yards. No injuries were reported. Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace said that upwards of five commercial buildings and an apartment sustained "significant damage." "We have some buildings with extensive fire damage," Wallace said. "We have other buildings where fire was trying to progress and we used a lot of water to stop that progress. There's significant damage to all of those buildings." More than 200 firefighters battled the fire. WJZ-TV CBS 13 BALTIMORE PHOTOS/VIDEOS: Despite forecasts of heavy rain and even lightning, the scene at Memorial Park Saturday morning was as bright as an autumn day could be for loved ones to honor those they've lost. Every September, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) holds their Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial ceremony in Colorado Springs to remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past year. This year marked an especially solemn occasion for the city as it marked the first time in over a decade that a Colorado Springs Fire Department firefighter's name has been added to the wall of honor. "This year is different for our locals," Colorado Springs Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 5 President Curt Crumb said. "We grieve with you, as we have lost one of our own: Bobby Keese." THE DENVER GAZETTE - METERED SITE After more than 2,000 gallons of gasoline leaked into the sewer lines, homes in a section of Ventura were evacuated for hours on Sunday. Evacuation orders and warning were issued around 10 a.m. Sunday and then lifted by 4:40 p.m. as city crews worked to mitigate the spill and ventilate the fumes building up in the system. The source of the leak was a Sinclair gas station on Harbor Boulevard, authorities said at an afternoon press conference. The station owner estimated a loss of more than 2,000 gallons of gas leaked into the system. About 150 homes in Ventura were ordered to evacuate Sunday due to the hazardous materials incident. "When the gas is present it's like standing in a gas station right over your gas tank," said resident Rob Crandall. "It's very strong."
