3-alarm fire sends flames shooting out of southwest Houston apartment VIDEO: A fire in southwest Houston required a three-alarm response on Wednesday evening as an ABC13 camera captured flames shooting out of an apartment unit. The Houston Fire Department said crews responded to the Stone Haven at the Galleria Apartments at 6419 Skyline Drive, off Hillcroft and south of Richmond Avenue. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported, HFD posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. The cause is not immediately known, but the fire department urged people to avoid the area due to heavy emergency traffic. An Eyewitness News crew arrived to a smoky scene and captured flames pouring out of the complex's castle-like corner apartment unit. The number of units impacted was not immediately known. Fourth coldest game in NFL history sees 69 people aided by Missouri fire department, ‘close to 50%' for hypothermia symptoms Emergency services in Kansas City rendered aid to 69 people, many for "hypothermia symptoms," during the Chiefs' Super Wild Card playoff win over the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, a fire department chief told CNN. Conditions at Arrowhead Stadium during the Chiefs' 26-7 win were tough for players and coaches to deal with, as well as fans: the temperature at kickoff was -4 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill of -20 degrees, making it the fourth coldest game in National Football League history, CNN has reported. At the end of the game, the temperature was -9 degrees and felt like -28 degrees, according to the Peacock broadcast. And while players could be seen huddling by pitch-side heaters and many made the most of heated benches in a bid to keep out the cold, fans had to wrap up warm as they watched from the stands. CNN FDNY commissioner pushes for federal action on lithium-ion batteries VIDEO: FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh is in Washington D.C. this week to address the pressing issue of unregulated lithium-ion batteries. Joining "Mornings On 1" Thursday via video conference call from the nation's capital, Kavanagh said she will be meeting with lawmakers and the U.S. Conference of Mayors to emphasize the need for urgent action on these potentially deadly devices often used in electric bikes and scooters. "New York City has already banned these [types of batteries], and we have done enforcement in every bike shop in New York City. And we are still seeing these, in particular, most of our deaths are in private homes, with devices that are already banned. So you know, that tells us not only is that a place where we can't enforce, it also tells us these are making their way in despite our ban on them, and the only way to really stop that is to stop them from coming into the ports in the first place, and that's what we're asking the feds to do," she said. SPECTRUM NEWS 1 - METERED SITE Fire department in California employs new MACH Alert system to enhance emergency response time VIDEO: The Chico Fire Department (CFD) is utilizing a new alert system they say can cut down their response time when called to emergency situations. The new system, called MACH Alert, will make the dispatching process consistent across all fire stations in Chico, and create a more rapid response to calls. The system lights up the interior of the station in red lights, plays tones, and audibly describes the type of incident and location to firefighters in the station. Chico Fire Chief Steve Standridge says the time from call to alert is less than one minute. "It gives our crews an understanding of what they're getting into potentially. That information is a critical piece that the dispatchers are able to glean out of a call, and then transmit it to crews to make our operations safer, more efficient, and more effective when we get on scene," said Chief Standridge. KRCR-TV ABC 7 REDDING City in Montana celebrates completion of memorial honoring those lost in 1895 warehouse explosion VIDEO: Butte firefighters, police, and members of a local history group braved the bitter cold on Monday afternoon to remember the lives lost in a devastating explosion and fire that took place almost 130 years ago in the Mining City's warehouse district. The Kenyon-Connell Warehouse fire of 1895 took the lives of all but two Butte firefighters when illegal dynamite exploded. Also lost to the fire were dozens of citizens, one police officer, horses, and a loyal dog. While it was immediately mourned by the community at the time, the event became lost to history until a group of amateur historians and members of the Butte-Silver Bow Archives staff began work on a memorial several years ago. About 100 people gathered on Jan. 15 outside of the Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department to celebrate the completion of the memorial that features the work of Montana artist Jim Dolan.
