Homeowner, firefighter expected to recover after injuries in Lindale house fire A homeowner and firefighter were injured but they are expected to recover following an early Thursday morning house fire in the Lindale area. Smith County Fire Marshal Jay Brooks said the Lindale and Red Springs fire departments responded to a home, located in the 13200 block of County Road 4173, fully engulfed in flames around 6:30 a.m. The homeowner was injured due to burns, while the firefighter was injured following an explosion in the home, Brooks said, adding that both injuries are considered non-life threatening. Investigators with the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office remained on the scene, Brooks said. KYTX-TV CBS/CW+ 19 NACOGDOCHES Nearly One Dozen House Fires Reported In Dallas-Fort Worth Area as Temperatures Plummet VIDEO: Wednesday night into Thursday proved to be a long, busy and cold night for firefighters in North Texas, as at least eleven house fires were reported in six different cities. Temperatures plunged into the twenties overnight, with wind chills in the teens, in most of the region. Four of the house fires were reported in Dallas. Two of the house fires were reported in Fort Worth. And one fire was reported in each of the following cities: Hurst, North Richland Hills, Coppell, and Balch Springs. Among the more damaging fires was at a one-story home on Wonder Drive in Southwest Fort Worth. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames tearing through the roof. No injuries were reported at any of the fires. KXAS-TV NBC 5 FORT WORTH Brazos County residents praise firefighters, neighbors with stopping fast-moving fire PHOTO: A Brazos County family wants to thank firefighters and neighbors for helping to stop a fast-moving fire Tuesday night on their property. The cause of the fire on Dilly Shaw Tap Road near Kurten hasn't been determined, but it spread from a barn to some farm equipment and across a couple of acres and eventually consumed stacks of hay bales. The family living on the property asked that we share this message with the community: "On behalf of the Bonifazi family, we'd like to express our greatest appreciation to everyone involved in taming the fire that spread on our land. Precinct 2, Precinct 4, Precinct 3, CS FD, Bryan FD, and all other volunteers, friends and family. The abundance of support we received showed us compassion and generosity." KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN Rolling Pines Fire: Bastrop County fire evacuation order completely lifted The Rolling Pines Fire continues to burn in Bastrop County as crews continue to work to contain the fire. Officials say as of 6:45 p.m. on January 19, 783 acres have burned and the fire, while not contained, is under control and no further growth has been seen. Officials with the Texas A&M Forest Service say ground crews made great progress improving and widening the fireline and that aviation resources made several beneficial drops to assist with hotspots. Initially, some 250 families were evacuated from the area but that number was dropped to 150. All have been allowed to go home. Highway 21 has reopened to traffic, however, drivers and the general public are asked to use caution if traveling in the area. No homes have been lost and no injuries have been reported in connection with the fire. KTBC-TV FOX 7 AUSTIN Related: Bastrop County is no stranger to wildfire; How does the current Rolling Pines Fire compare? The destructive threat of wildfire is nothing new to Bastrop. The most destructive wildfire in Texas history occurred in Bastrop County, which is home to the Lost Pines, an isolated forest of loblolly pine trees that help make the area a desirable place to live, but also provides kindling for wildfires. In an effort to keep the threat of wildfire at bay, officials regularly burn smaller, prescribed fires. How does the current, active Rolling Pines fire compare to those weathered by Bastrop County residents in the past? The 2011 Bastrop County Complex fire was not only the largest wildfire to affect the Bastrop area, but stands as Texas' largest and most destructive wildfire to date. The wildfire ravaged more than 34,000 acres of land, destroyed an estimated 1,600 homes, killed two people and injured at least a dozen others. The American-Statesman reported that this fire destroyed 95% of Bastrop State Park. AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN - METERED SITE No injuries reported in Corpus Christi house fire Corpus Christi Fire Department crews were on the scene of a fire on Scotland Drive in Flour Bluff early Thursday morning just south of Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. Fire department officials say the first started just before 4:15 a.m. There were told three people were in the house, two children and an adult, but no one was hurt. The American Red Cross is helping them. Twelve units were called to the scene to assist. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. KRIS-TV NBC/CW+ 6 CORPUS CHRISTI PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

THE PROGRESS-INDEX 2 killed in crash involving fire truck in New Jersey VIDEO: Authorities say two people have died after a vehicle collided with a fire truck in Camden County Wednesday morning. The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. near Warwick Road and North White Horse Pike. Authorities say a fire truck from Lawnside was heading southbound on Warwick when it collided with a car that was heading west on White Horse Pike. The two people in the car were killed in the crash, authorities say. Three firefighters that were on the truck were not seriously injured. The fire truck was responding to a call in Magnolia at the time of the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. WTXF-TV FOX 29 PHILADELPHIA More than 200 planes could have the same problem that caused an Alaska commuter service fire, investigators say An investigation into the Yute Commuter Service plane that caught fire on Nov. 20, 2021 has found that the fire was started by wiring in the aircraft that was installed incorrectly. The wiring was installed as part of a federally funded experimental safety program, and there could be over 200 other planes in the region that have the same problem. The plane that caught fire was a Cessna 207. A week after the incident, two investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and one from the airplane's manufacturer arrived in Bethel to find out what started the fire. They started collecting the charred wreckage of the plane. "We were able to harvest some parts that we suspect were the ignition source of the fire," said NTSB Alaska chief Clint Johnson. KTOO-FM 104.3 JUNEAU First Responders In California Blast Long Emergency Room Wait Times At Capitol Hearing VIDEO: First responders at the California State Capitol on Wednesday blasted hours-long wait times to transfer patients to emergency rooms. Emergency health workers voiced their growing frustration during a hearing, saying the wait times are bad for patients and keep them from other calls. Some agencies reported waiting up to eight hours to transfer patients to emergency rooms. Many reported waiting several hours because no one is available to receive new patients — a problem made worse as the COVID-19 Omicron variant stretches hospitals thin. "It's only a matter of time before a community member will die simply because they could not get to the hospital," Chino Valley Fire District Chief David Williams said during the hearing. Emergency health workers say the problem has been decades in the making, exacerbated now by staffing shortages and high demand due to the pandemic. KOVR-TV CBS 13 SACRAMENTO Check Out This Maine Fire Department's Cool 'Sno-Bulance' Rescue Boggan PHOTOS: Sometimes Fire Departments have some really cool tools at their disposal. This one, from the Town of Hermon Fire Department's Facebook page, caught my eye. So I reached out to Hermon Fire Chief Cody Sullivan to get the skinny on this member of Hermon's rescue fleet, the rescue-boggan, also known as the "snowbulance". "So that is a self-contained transport toboggan, so there's room for a patient on a backboard with spine mobilization, and also room for an EMT or a paramedic to attend to the potential victim's needs during transport off a trail." "It's not self-propelled, it's a tow-behind, so it's made to tow behind a snowmobile." Sullivan says the Hermon Firefighters, along with members of other local fire departments, train on these pieces of equipment, and keep them ready to be available in an instant, should the need arise in a snowy or icy situation.
