Firefighter injured after fire at plant in Port Arthur reignites A firefighter suffered a heat-related illness after a fire at a plant in Port Arthur reignited more than an hour after it was extinguished. The Port Arthur Fire Department responded to the Woodville Pellets Plant shortly before noon, after receiving a call about a fire on the exterior conveyor system. The plant is located near the Port of Port Arthur, according to a Port Arthur Fire Department release. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a fire with light gray smoke at the top of a conveyor in a bin area used to move products to ships for transport. Firefighters worked to make sure the fire did not reach any silos that contained product. Crews were able to put out the fire by 12:06 p.m., according to the release. The Fire Marshal's Office issued a Stop Work Order because the company was not following code requirements. KBMT-TV ABC/NBC 12 BEAUMONT College Station Fire Department hires more firefighters, EMTs with federal grant The College Station Fire Department announced they were awarded nearly $2 million to hire seven new firefighters and paramedics. The "Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response" grant is administered through FEMA. College Station Fire said the grant will cover all of the costs associated with the seven new hires for a total of three years. CSFD Battalion Chief Michael Clements and Emergency Management Coordinator Tradd Mills applied for the grant, citing rapid growth within the city limits of College Station. The department said the additional staffing will help cover an increase in rescue and medical calls. The grant will also allow CSFD to improve customer service and reduce a financial burden on taxpayers, according to the department. KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN Firefighters respond to multiple grass fires in Brazos County Firefighters responded Wednesday afternoon to multiple grass fires along a one-mile stretch of FM 974 on the northeast side of Brazos County. The fires were reported near the Edge community along Tabor Road near Alexander Road and Della Love Road. It's unclear at the moment what started the fires. According to KBTX meteorologists, the area has had weeks of dry weather and vegetation has once again reached dry enough levels to elevate fire danger. On Wednesday, Leon and Madison Counties joined most of the eastern counties in our viewing area to enact burn bans. Though outdoor burning is technically allowed in Brazos County and most of the western counties of the Brazos Valley, you'll want to exercise caution with any outdoor burning and stay tuned to the forecast to find which days outdoor burning will be safest. KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN Fire department and Domino's partnership gives Aransas Pass customers a surprise Some people in Aransas Pass ordering from Domino's on Wednesday evening did not expect to see the Aransas Pass Fire Department Show up with their delivery. They weren't there to just deliver pizza. It's an annual partnership between the fire department and Domino's for Fire Prevention Week. "They are very shocked, when the fire department opens the door and the fire department is there," David Henderson said, owner of the Aransas Pass Domino's. "And they realize if they have their working fire alarm that their order is actually free. The customers are just ecstatic when that happens." "I'm completely stunned. I did not know they were doing this," a customer said. With permission of the home owner the fire department checks their smoke detector, making sure it works. KRIS-TV NBC/CW+ 6 CORPUS CHRISTI 17 emergency vehicles dispatched to 120-acre grass fire near Pottsboro Firefighters still don't know the exact cause of Wednesday's grass fire that occurred just west of Pottsboro, but are asking residents to be mindful that drought conditions make it easy to spark a fire. As many as 17 vehicles were dispatched to fight the fire, which officials say grew from covering an acre and a half of land and quickly spread to as much as about 120 acres. After putting out the fire, officials have a message for residents. Lt. Jay Leird, of locust fire department, said, "The ongoing drought is a problem for everybody... the public has to remain aware and conscious of the risk of any outdoor burning that could create a potential wildfire." KXII-TV CBS/MYNETWORKTV/FOX 12 SHERMAN Grand Prairie apartment complex fire displaces 25 residents The Grand Prairie Fire Department said that an apartment fire on Wednesday left 25 people temporarily without homes. At about 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2022, the GPFD said it received several calls about black smoke and flames coming from an apartment building in the 1900 block of Houston St. When they arrived, crews saw flames engulfing the second floor and requested a two-alarm response, which was then increased to a three-alarm response by command staff. The fire was brought under control just before 9:30 p.m. By the time the blaze was extinguished, 17 units had been destroyed or damaged. The American Red Cross said it was working to help about 25 people who were displaced. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated. Firefighters Battle Large Blaze at Massachusetts Greenhouse, Video Shows Heavy Flames Firefighters battled a large fire at a Sudbury, Massachusetts, greenhouse on Wednesday afternoon. Sudbury police said the structure fire was at Cavicchio Greenhouses on Codjer Lane. It was first reported about 2:40 p.m. Aerial video showed what appeared to be a greenhouse destroyed by fire. Heavy black smoke was pouring from the structure. The structure was a total loss, Sudbury Fire Chief John Whalen said, but other ones were saved. "This particular complex has a lack of water, we've had fires here previously," he told reporters, adding that it takes some time to establish the necessary water supply to fight the flames. Police asked residents in the area to close their windows to keep smoke out of their homes. Any businesses using Cavicchio Greenhouses were also asked to avoid the area. Motorists were also being asked to stay away. WBTS-CD NBC 10 NASHUA VIDEO: Georgia firefighters create fire safety music video for fire prevention week A new local hip-hop group just dropped its debut single, and it is straight fire. Tasked with creating an instructional video to show in schools for Fire Prevention Week, Milledgeville Fire Rescue went off the beaten path and recorded an original song along with a music video to educate kids about fire safety. "Don't Wait (Pre-Plan Your Escape)" went live on YouTube Monday and fits right in with the National Fire Protection Association's message for 2022 Fire Prevention Week, "Fire Won't Wait. Plan Your Escape." The slogan encourages parents to create an exit plan in case a fire happens in their homes and share that plan with their children so they know what to do. The local firefighters took that message and turned it into a catchy hook along with a few verses. UNION RECORDER Tennessee firefighter, on-scene interpreter making a difference one call at a time There's a new face at Rural Metro Fire, Knox County. A young firefighter who is making a difference with his language skills. "Personally, I've always been a giver, ever since I was a little kid. I've always wanted to help people," firefighter Daniel Guerrero said. Guerrero is just over two months out of Academy Training, but already he's making a difference through his English-Spanish interpretation skills. "Luckily I was on the call, because no one knew how to speak Spanish," says Guerrero. "So, I'm lucky I ran the call." The 19-year-old California native recently accompanied his fellow Station No. 34 brothers to a call where the victims spoke no English. Only Spanish. "They were both Spanish speakers and you could tell they were panicking because no one knew English at the scene and they really didn't know how to translate," Guerrero tells Six News. WATE-TV ABC 6 KNOXVILLE Wisconsin: All 142 Milwaukee fallen firefighters honored, dating back to 1800s All 142 Milwaukee firefighters who have died serving the city since 1860 were honored Wednesday, Oct. 12 during the annual "Fallen Firefighter Memorial Program." Everyone knows that a firefighter's job is dangerous. It's their duty to run toward the flames, but Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said it's what happens after they leave that can be the most deadly. From those who died in the 1800s to the most recent, all 142 members of the Milwaukee Fire Department that have given their life had their names read Wednesday. "We still have to remember because they did still make the ultimate sacrifice so that somebody else might live," said Chief Lipski. "What we do is risk. It is risk." Over the decades, Chief Lipski said research has shown the biggest risk may not be the flames but the things they breathe in. WITI-TV FOX 6 MILWAUKEE Indiana firefighters raising funds to repair vintage firetruck PHOTOS: When Zionsville Fire Department firefighter Brett Havlin found an abandoned 1964 Zionsville firetruck in Sandwich, Ill., he knew something had to be done to bring it home. Havlin, along with fellow firefighters Kendrick Davis and Bobby Smith pooled their money to purchase the truck and bring it back to Zionsville, but the vehicle was going to need some work. This past spring, Boone County Professional Firefighters Association Local 5195 voted to purchase the truck from the men, raise funds to restore it and hopefully use it to bring the community together. "A stipulation of the sale was that the truck would stay with future firefighters in Zionsville and the Boone County Local was able to do that for us," Smith said. "We want the Zionsville Fire Department firefighters and part-time firefighters to help restore it to create a bonding experience for our firefighters of the past and present."
