27 RVs and trailers damaged by fire at storage facility in Brenham VIDEO/PHOTOS: A large fire burning at an RV storage facility in Brenham on Wednesday evening is now under control. The blaze at Allsorts Storage on Highway 36 South sent a large plume of thick smoke into the air that could be seen beyond Washington County. According to fire officials, more than two dozen RVs and trailers were damaged by the fire. Half a dozen more were damaged by heat. Multiple fire agencies responded to the scene and parts of the roadway were closed just before 8:00 p.m. While details are unclear at this time, we've received eye-witness reports that a large fire began shortly before 6 p.m. at a boat and RV storage facility off of Highway 36. According to KWHI radio news, there were multiple propane tanks and RVs on fire. No injuries have been reported and it's unclear at this time what may have started the fire. KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN City of Amarillo approves payroll increase for local first responders VIDEO: The City of Amarillo has approved a pay increase for first responders in a city council meeting Tuesday. Amarillo police officers and firefighters will see their salaries rise by 6% to 16% depending on their rank. "Some of the upper ranks it's a 6.6% raise and then some of the lower ranks like new officers and recruits saw raises of 16.1%, and then there's a variety in just between based on what rank you are and how long you've been here," said Wesley Brown, sergeant at the Amarillo Police Department. City officials say the move is aimed at retaining and attracting top talent in these critical roles. "Public safety is our biggest priority and you know, if you live in a city and it's not a safe city, it's not somewhere you want to live. So we have to continue to support both our blue and our red and everybody, all the civilians that facilitate those two departments as well," said Mayor Cole Stanley. KFDA-TV CBS 10 AMARILLO Firefighters contain fire at septic tank company near Silsbee VIDEO: Firefighters in Silsbee have contained a fire at Clearstream Wastewater Systems. TCEQ officials have been monitoring the air quality and water runoff from the resin that was burning. "For the public there was no hazard vapors or anything that would cause any issues as far as breathing," said Silsbee Fire and Rescue Chief Robin Jones. Silsbee firefighters are still investigating what caused the massive fire at the facility. Jones says that about 15 agencies spent Wednesday evening working to extinguish the flames. First responders spent hours spraying foam on the facility along Highway 96 and old Evadale Road. Firefighters on the scene have told 12News that so far no injuries have been reported. However, some firefighters had to be transferred to nearby hospitals due to heat exhaustion after working hours in the intense heat. KBMT-TV ABC/NBC 12 BEAUMONT PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

VIDEO: Yacht capsizes at California dock after ammunition and fireworks catch on fire A luxury yacht carrying nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition and fireworks caught fire shortly before capsizing in the Marina del Rey harbor on Wednesday evening. Two people were on board the 100-foot yacht when the fire ignited, but both were able to get off safely. The U.S. Coast Guard continued environmental cleanup efforts Thursday morning as the yacht bobbed on its side, testing air quality and remediating water contamination from fuel spillage. At around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters rushed to the docks at Basin A, where the boat, named "The Admiral," was heavily involved in flames, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Crews tried to fight the fire both by ground and by water, but it proved difficult to contain. KCAL-TV CBS 9 LOS ANGELES Two New York Bills to Strengthen EMS and Expand Emergency Care Signed into Law Senator Michelle Hinchey announced that two of her bills to improve emergency care and support EMS providers statewide have been signed into law, including legislation creating three new reimbursement sources for EMS (S8486C) and expanding the ability of motor vehicle ambulance services to administer life-saving blood transfusions (S6226A). Previously, EMS was only reimbursed for transporting patients to hospital ERs. Senator Hinchey's bill, S8486C, expands this to include reimbursement for on-scene treatment, transport to approved healthcare facilities like urgent care and mental health clinics, and telemedicine consultations. This change, effective October 1, 2024, comes on the heels of a rally led by Hinchey, EMS, and Fire leaders urging for the signing of this bill. A second Hinchey bill, S6226A, allows ambulances to carry and transfuse blood during all emergency transports, not just between hospitals. THE NEW YORK STATE SENATE Virus that causes paralyzing illness is spiking in the U.S., wastewater data shows A respiratory virus that sometimes paralyzes children is spreading across the U.S., raising concerns about another possible rise in polio-like illnesses. Wastewater samples have detected a significant escalation in an enterovirus called D68, which, in rare cases, has been linked to acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM. The illness affects the nervous system and causes severe weakness in the arms and legs. This most often occurs in young children. "We are detecting EV-D68 nucleic acids in wastewater across the country now, and the levels are increasing," said Alexandria Boehm, program director of WastewaterSCAN, a nonprofit monitoring network and a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University. That's the first clue to suggest that the nation might see an increase in AFM this year, said Caitlin Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and author of "Crisis Averted: The Hidden Science of Fighting Outbreaks."
