VIDEO/PHOTO: Dallas County Sheriff's Office traffic deputies alongside other first responders have rescued the driver of a Sherwin Williams box truck who was trapped inside, hanging off the Stemmons Freeway overpass Monday afternoon. It happened at the interchange of North Stemmons Freeway and the Dallas North Tollway. The Urban Search and Rescue Team was called to help Dallas Fire-Rescue rescue the driver. After stabilizing the truck in its resting position, they used a couple aerial ladders in their efforts. One of the ladders was placed on the road below lifting the USAR technicians up to the cab of the truck. They fashioned a rope system at the tip of second ladder and positioned it above the cab of the truck. When rescue workers from the lower ladder reached the driver, they packaged him into a harness, hooked him up to the rope system at the tip of the second ladder and lifted him to safety. The driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

VIDEO: Matthew Dawson was born in Lubbock on Feb. 5, 1989. He graduated from Lubbock-Cooper high school in 2007 and went on to attend the Wolfforth Fire Academy in 2010. He married his wife Chanda in 2011 and in 2014 Dawson joined Lubbock Fire Rescue and welcomed his first child within just two months. Dawson's life changed the morning of Jan. 11, 2020. He was part of a group of first responders called to an icy wreck on North Interstate 27 that morning. While on scene, a vehicle crashed into him. Dawson spent months in a Lubbock hospital and a treatment center in Colorado. He returned home to a hero's welcome and a community that supported him and his family with donations, volunteer service and a mortgage-free home.

VIDEO: Sherman's Central Fire Station is getting a make-over! "We're adding three additional bays to the north side of the property, and everything that's here currently will become the living quarters for the firefighters, really expanding the capacity," Sherman Fire Chief, Billy Hartsfield explained. Built in the 1960's, Fire Station Number One houses seven firefighters, but when renovations are done, the expansion will allow room for eleven. Located in the heart of Downtown Sherman, the city felt this station could benefit the most from upgrades. "When we look at the incidents and where we serve the people the most, this one is centrally located to help the citizens. And so it made the most sense to increase its abilities to respond to emergencies," Hartsfield continued.

With the holidays in full effect, the Corpus Christi Fire Department is making sure its first responders are prepared should a major accident happen on local roadways. Firefighters do a lot more than just putting out fires, and that was in full effect Monday as the department held an auto-extrication training to give veterans and rookies hand-on experience with skills that could come into play during the holiday season. According to both TxDOT and AAA Texas, this time of year is the busiest on the road, as thousands travel to visit with family and friends. The Texas Department of Public Safety said 420 fatalities were due to a motor vehicle accident in December 2022. Officials said Monday's exercise is just one way the department aims to live up to its "Stay ready so you don't have to get ready," mantra.

A home exploded in Arlington, Virginia, on Monday night and rocked a neighborhood with a powerful blast after police say a suspect fired a flare gun into the neighborhood dozens of times. Stunning video shows a home exploding into flames and collapsing as debris flies more than two stories into the air. The blast occurred as police investigated someone shooting flares into a residential area near Ballston. Three police officers received minor injuries but were not taken to hospitals, the department said. Officials are unaware of anyone else who was hurt, they said at a news conference. Police received reports of a man firing a flare gun from a home in the 800 block of N. Burlington Street at about 4:45 p.m. The suspect fired the flare gun 30 to 40 times, Arlington police said. Officers tried to execute a search warrant shortly before 8:30 p.m.

VIDEO: Not only is it a first for Arizona, but the Gilbert Fire Department is among the first in the nation to get an electric fire truck. It's been in action for about a month at the city's busiest fire station. The goal is to see if it's safer and more efficient before potentially converting more of the fleet. Fire Chief Rob Duggan says they've already seen notable improvements. He says the electric truck moves faster out of the firehouse and restarting at stop lights than any of the other trucks. He says those are critical seconds that add up when you're waiting in an emergency. "It's about delivering four people within four minutes to anybody's door that needs you," said Chief Duggan. The truck is a virtual hybrid - so it can switch to diesel if the battery runs out, but it's designed to last two hours and can travel up to 90 miles per charge.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Lives lost, but not forgotten. It's been over 16 years since nine firefighters with the Charleston Fire Department (CFD) lost their lives fighting a blaze at the Sofa Super Store in West Ashley. Out of that terrible scene, a finished memorial honors the fallen and serves as a reminder of that night. "There's a lot of symbiology in that fire station," Charleston Director of Parks and Capital Projects Jason Kronsberg said. "These sites are knitted together with pedestrian pathways and really telling that whole story." CFD Assistant Chief David Griffin was there the night of the fire. "It went so fast, it felt like when those 30 minutes passed, we were trying to figure out who we were missing," Griffin said. "It was very difficult for us to find out what do next. There are a lot of people that weighs heavy on."
