Dallas-Fire Rescue worked to extinguish a fire at a Dallas Hooters Monday afternoon. Crews responded to the fire at the Hooters located at 2201 North Lamar Street in Dallas around 11:23 a.m. When crews arrived only a light haze could be seen, according to DFR. According to DFR, more structural involvement was discovered and a second alarm was sounded at 11:57 a.m. One firefighter was injured on the scene and was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in stable condition. The firefighter suffered minor injuries to his head, face, and leg. He is expected to make a full recovery, according to DFR. The cause of the fire is under investigation.  

VIDEO: The Canyon Fire Department has installed 30 state-of-the-art air tanks into its trucks, replacing 20-year-old equipment. "They were 20 years old; the life expectancy of an air pack is around 15 years old so we'd extended that life expectancy out by about 5 years. It was getting to the point where those being so old, parts were becoming unavailable," said Canyon Fire Chief Dennis Gwyn. The Canyon firefighters have been through training with the new tanks to learn how to work with the updated technology. "Especially here, we're kind of short handed so when we run fire calls we try to follow two-in, two-out rule, just like anywhere. The pass device is going to go off just like any pack if we don't move; if we're motionless, it'll go off on its own," said Wyatt Garton, lieutenant, Canyon Fire Department.  

PHOTO: Flames have consumed a church building Monday near the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site in Washington County. Firefighters responded to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church on FM 1155 at approximately 1:30 p.m. At 4 p.m. firefighters from multiple agencies were still on scene extinguishing hot spots. Washington Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Casada tells KBTX that the cause of the fire is unknown at this time but no injuries have been reported. The department was receiving mutual aid assistance from the Navasota Fire Department, Chappell Hill Vol. Fire Department, Meyersville VFD, the Brenham Fire Department, Washington County EMS, and the Washington County CERT team. A sign outside the church says the congregation meets mostly on weekends and Bible Study is hosted on Wednesday nights.  

VIDEO: Firefighters in Georgetown rescued a cat and dog from a structure fire last week, with dramatic video of the rescue released Monday. The Georgetown Fire Department responded to a fire at 10:58 a.m. Thursday, finding flames in the garage of a home. Crews, assisted by Round Rock Engine 7, entered the burning structure and successfully rescued two pets trapped inside. Both animals received oxygen treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene. Fire officials reported the pets were "doing well" following the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the department. Video footage of the rescue, shared on social media Monday, shows firefighters in action as they saved the animals from the burning home.  

VIDEOS: Firefighters battled a blaze for over 11 hours on Grand Rapid's west side at PADNOS' Front Street Recycling location. Investigators have now confirmed the fire was caused by a lightning strike. A PADNOS Company manager said that one employee had arrived to work early, saw the smoke and immediately called 911. It started around 3 a.m. at the facility located at 601 Letellier Avenue. It took crews over 2 hours to extinguish the flames. Our crew at the scene saw flames coming from the building, along with a massive plume of black smoke. Grand Rapids Fire Marshal Bill Smith said fire crews were up on aerials, shooting water into the blaze. "The fire was advanced enough that it drove our fire suppression crews out, and we went defensive at that time, we did try to make another interior attack," Smith said.  

VIDEO: An online fundraiser for the family of Corey Comperatore, the man who died shielding his family from gunfire at Saturday's Donald Trump rally in Butler, has raised $1 million. Jason Bubb, the owner of Three Fit Six gym in Cabot, organized the fundraiser. He said Comperatore's daughter Allyson has been a member of his gym since day one. "She's an awesome client of mine," Bubb said Monday. His original goal was to raise $7,000. "And now I'm in it, and I'm going to do it to my fullest power to help her, and by all means, this is all about that family," Bubb said. Bubb said he met Corey years ago when they worked out at the same gym, describing him as a great guy. "I hope he's remembered as the hero that he was, the father that he was, the husband that he was," Bubb said.  

VIDEO: A South Side organization is paving the way for the next generation to become first responders. The Black Fire Brigade recently celebrated its 6th anniversary by opening a new educational center in Washington Park. All of the students who have gone through the program have gotten jobs as firefighters or EMT's. From CPR training in the classroom, to a shooting scenario that looks very real, retired firefighter Quention Curtis is training the next generation of first responders. Curtis is founder of the Black Fire Brigade, a nonprofit organization that recruits, trains, and provides employment opportunities for young African Americans so they can become medical technicians and firefighters. Also known as Lt. Q, Curtis was a firefighter for 37 years. He started the Black Fire Brigade six years ago.  

Illicit use of the veterinary tranquilizer xylazine continues to spread across the United States. The drug, which is increasingly mixed with fentanyl, often fails to respond to the opioid overdose reversal medication naloxone and can cause severe necrotic lesions. A report released by Millennium Health, a specialty lab that provides medication monitoring for pain management, drug treatment, and behavioral and substance use disorder treatment centers across the country, showed the number of urine specimens collected and tested at the US drug treatment centers were positive for xylazine in the most recent 6 months. As previously reported by Medscape Medical News, in late 2022, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a communication alerting clinicians about the special management required for opioid overdoses tainted with xylazine, which is also known as "tranq" or "tranq dope."
