VIDEO: Two Channelview families are dealing with damaged homes after a bizarre incident on Monday. "It's crazy ... it's crazy. I thank God, to be honest, because that could have killed me. My roof is all fallen apart ... my wall," said Antonio Medrano. Medrano said it felt like an explosion when a natural gas tank crashed through the roof of his home. "Like a little whistle and out of nowhere I heard a boom," Medrano said. What's even crazier, the tank launched more than 900 feet away and into another home. A video showed the moment it flew away. The two homes were damaged but investigators said it's a miracle that no one was seriously hurt. "I'm just glad that we're good. We don't really care about the house. It's just something ... we can get it back. I'm just glad that we're good," Medrano said.

Two homes in two different towns in the Coastal Bend area were heavily damaged by lighting strikes on Monday morning. A Rockport family that was moving into their new home is now dealing with the heavy damage caused by the unexpected lightning strike. The home on Baywatch Drive was hit by lightning just before 6 a.m. Monday morning. According to officials, there wasn't much fire damage, but the lightning blew out the structure's electrical system. The energy from the lightning traveled through the electrical wiring and blew out every single outlet. The owner and his wife were inside the home, but they were not hurt. "The family is lucky that their house is not totally destroyed. It can be repaired, thankfully. I spoke to the homeowner this morning, and he already has insurance on the way, and they are going to try to get it fixed fairly quickly," Chief Aaron Guerrero of Rockport Volunteer Fire Department said.

One month after the mass shooting at the Allen Premium Outlets, a 66-page post-incident analysis released by the City of Allen Fire Department details medical responders' immediate actions in the wake of the chaotic scene developing at the shopping mall. Allen Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd said that compiling an accurate report along these lines was a matter of combing through GPS records, interviews and communications with multiple departments. "We wanted to make sure all of it was released at one time, so that it was completely transparent about our medical response," said Boyd. The chief himself was among those who responded to the scene on May 6. "It was something I had never experienced in the 27 years that I've been doing this job," he said.

The Fire Marshal has officially ruled a Sunday afternoon house fire in Pinehurst as arson. On Sunday, June 5, 2023, the Pinehurst Fire Department responded to the 3600 block of Martin Street in reference to a report of a possible burning complaint. When they arrived, firefighters found the backside of the structure on fire. Firefighters quickly contained the fire from spreading throughout the whole home. Mutual aid was requested from West Orange Fire Department, Orange County ESD #3 and #4. No injuries were reported. This is the second time that firefighters have responded to a burning complaint at this location, according to fire officials. On Monday, the Fire Marshal ruled the house fire as arson. As of now, there is no word on any potential suspect or suspects.

Fire crews in Birmingham are currently investigating the cause of a major fire of a church in Ensley. The incident took place at the intersection of Five Points West Avenue and Avenue S. No injuries have been reported. Local resident and Ensley Highlands neighborhood president, Antwon Womack, shed light on the history of the church, describing it as a community pillar in the past. However, he expressed concerns about the building's condition, fearing an incident like this would occur. The church, known as the Warriors of the Words Church, according to Womack, has remained vacant for at least a decade. Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews swiftly responded to the fire Monday afternoon, with flames and smoke billowing from the structure.

VIDEO: With kayaking back in season, one Northeast Ohio fire department is investing in their water rescues with two new jet skis. For Josh Scott, kayaking is a job and his passion. "We rent kayaks out of the Emerald Necklace here in the Cleveland metro parks," said Scott, manager and lead guide for 41 North Coastal Adventures. Scott spends his days teaching people how to paddle and not flip in their kayaks so they don't have to be saved by fire departments like Sheffield Lake. In Sheffield Lake, they've seen so many water rescues that they decided to invest their equipment dollars in buying two new jet skis. "We can get really close to victims without hurting them, like with a bigger boat, you need more manpower," said Lieutenant Brian Davis, Sheffield Lake Fire Department.

VIDEO: A single vehicle crashed into a Los Angeles Fire Department station in Sun Valley early Monday morning. A car crashed into the front of LAFD Fire Station 77, located at 9224 Sunland Boulevard, at the intersection of Tuxford Place, at about 5:26 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Dept. Two people in the car suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, according to the LAFD. The car was overturned at the front of the building. The active fire station was occupied by LAFD personnel at the time of the crash, the department said. The building was superficially damaged. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the crash was under investigation.

The development partners of an eight-unit housing project for Wood River Valley first responders have commenced construction and anticipate the project will be completed by the end of the year. Sun Valley City Administrator Jim Keating announced the news in a project update to the Sun Valley City Council and Mayor Peter Hendricks on Thursday. Keating gave the update before council members voted 4-0 to disburse $984,000 to pay for the second of two orders for four prefabricated homes to be installed at a site immediately south of the Greenhorn Fire Station in the mid-valley, adjacent to state Highway 75. Four units had already been ordered from Utah-based manufacturer Zip Kit Homes, through Idaho Falls-based Mountain Valley Prefab.

The City of Las Vegas's Fire & Rescue is working toward addressing firefighter suicide rates and mental health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance report firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue's behavioral health administrator, Jeff Dill, said the national suicide rate for firefighters has increased. Statewide, the number has fluctuated. The department has instituted new coping mechanisms to address the alarming trend. Before taking their final exams, recruits do yoga to help relieve stress before their final exams. "It allows us to decompress," said recruit Wade Jacobs. "To get stress off our shoulders and go into our finals with a level mind and body."
