PHOTOS: A fire that broke out late Sunday afternoon in historic downtown Alpine has left the community in shock and mourning. The blaze, which engulfed the building at 109-115 West Holland Avenue, started in Judy's Bread and Breakfast Bakery Cafe according to witnesses, though the official cause is still under investigation. The Alpine Fire Department, upon receiving the call around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2024, responded swiftly to the scene with 14 firefighters and multiple units, including Command 1, Command 2, Brush 2, Attack 1, Rescue 1, Engine 1, Engine 3, and Tanker 1. Despite their efforts to access and extinguish the flames, conditions rapidly deteriorated, leading to a structural collapse. Thankfully, all civilians and fire personnel were safely evacuated before the collapse.  

PHOTO: Multiple crews responded to a fire at Solid Rock Baptist Church on Monday. A number of volunteer fire departments from Angelina County responded to a fire at a church on FM 2109, according to a social media post from the Huntington Police Department. Police said the church was under construction when what "appears to have been an explosion" caused a fire, blowing a door and other debris up to 100 feet away from the building. The Zavalla Fire and Police Departments are working this case.  

The pilot of a single-engine Beechcraft Sundowner is OK after a rough landing at Denton Enterprise Airport on Monday. From photographs and statements from the Denton Fire Department, it appears the pilot was landing on Runway 36R when the starboard landing gear collapsed. The low-wing plane came to rest just off the west side of the north-south runway. "Thankfully the pilot is OK," Denton Fire tweeted. Denton Fire responded with the department's Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting truck and their green UNT-themed fire engine. It's not clear if anyone else was on board at the time. No other injuries were reported.  

PHOTOS: Firefighters battled a large house fire in Gresham early Monday morning. Just after midnight, crews from Gresham Fire responded to a fire in the 2400 block of Southwest 1st Street, near Southwest Mawrcrest Avenue. Gresham Fire says the fire started in the garage and quickly spread to the house, along with a few vehicles that were outside of the garage. One of the homeowners woke up to the smoke alarms going off and found the fire in the garage. The homeowner was able to evacuate himself and pets. No injuries were reported. "Shocking, absolutely shocking. All I could think about is, is somebody being hurt," said Marylou Spicer. Spicer told FOX 12 that she woke up Monday morning to find her neighbors home charred and boarded up.  

VIDEO: A recent Colby College graduate, who is also a firefighter, highlighted Waterville Fire and Rescue in her senior art exhibit. You may have heard the adage, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Studio art major Morgan Cheney embodied this by capturing the day-to-day of first responders at Waterville Fire and Rescue. "This exhibit is actually called 'Pride In Duty.' That is the mission statement of the Waterville Fire Department," Cheney said. Cheney used a Sony digital camera and her dad's film camera, which he used when he was in college, for her capstone project which was on display at the Paul J. Schupf Art Center. "I'm in the fire department, but I'm also a photographer," Cheney said. "I think I had a very special role in that I can capture the relationships that I have with those people through the camera and sort of create a more raw feeling to the pictures and sort of give that connection to the viewer."  

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A Connecticut TikToker is going viral after posting a video showing her tripping over her couch while trying to escape an out-of-control kitchen fire. The footage shared on an account operated in part by LaTeasha Brost, which now has 6 million views, was captured by a pet camera in her apartment's living room. "Fire! Babe, we have a fire!" Brost is first heard telling her wife in the clip as a cooking pan bursts into flames. "Babe, what [do] I do?" "I don't know, go outside," she responds. Brost then tries to douse the flames in the kitchen sink – but it makes the fire worse. The video ends with Brost running toward an exit and dropping the flaming pan, but she falls to the ground after tripping over her couch. The fire eventually went out after the pan hit the floor.
