Corpus Christi fire has crews busy The Corpus Christi Fire Department was on the scene of a house fire on Sarita Street and Bolivar Street early Wednesday morning. Three cars, the car port, the garage apartment, and the house were all up in flames when crews arrived. Initially, they were unable to confirm if residents were inside or not. According to fire crews all residents are accounted for and uninjured. Battalion Chief Jim DeVisser says it was a multitude of complications that prolonged them being able to control the fire. Those complications include an abundance of content inside the home, a gas meter exploding in the back of the home cause a plume of gas to feed into the fire, and power lines catching fire nearby. "We did have one verticals call with, with a firefighter that was on top of some of the contents, the contents fell in pushing him into the structure was on fire, he was able to come out another window, and was on injured," said DeVisser. KAMC-TV ABC 28 LUBBOCK Texas A&M Forest Service helping battle Northwest wildfires Firefighters from Texas are in western states trying to help contain wildfires before they destroy any more homes. "There are currently 108 large fires burning and they've burned more than 2 million acres," said Erin O'Connor, public information officer with Texas A&M Forest Service. The Texas A&M Forest Service sent about 45 of their personnel to help battle wildfires devastating parts of the western United States. "We have personnel in California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington right now," O'Connor said Dozer crews, engine crews and overhead support teams are working up to 16 hours a day - sometimes hiking through rugged terrain to save homes in the path of growing flames. "When we send personnel out of state, they're typically gone between 14 and 21 days, and then they'll come back in state and they might go out again, or we send other personnel to take their place and do kind of like a crew swap," said O'Connor. Wisconsin fire destroys warehouse, injures firefighters, drains water tower VIDEO: A large warehouse fire in Fort Atkinson Tuesday displaced about 50 residents and injured some of the 150 firefighters called to the scene. The fire was reported around noon in the 700 block of Oak Street on the city's north side, police said. There was no one in the building at the time. Fire Chief Daryl Rausch said at a press conference Tuesday evening that some firefighters suffered injuries due to the heat and were treated at the scene or taken to a local hospital. Rausch said crews nearly "drained the city water system" while combating the blaze, leading to the department's decision to let the rest of the building and its contents burn. The warehouse contained tires for military vehicles, unspecified chemicals and cans from a local canning company. WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL Rhode Island first in the nation to deploy new disaster response tech VIDEO: When disaster strikes, communication is crucial. That's why the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency and Gov. Dan McKee announced Tuesday that first responders will soon start using some groundbreaking technology. These so-called "Compact Rapid Deployables" are mobile units that use satellite connectivity to make sure first responders have access to cellular and wi-fi coverage wherever they are. "During the tragic events of 9/11, it was determined that due to the extraordinary amount of cell phone usage, critical first responder messaging was lost," RIEMA Director Marc Pappas said. "First responders will be prioritized in the system so they will be heard above all of the noise in the cell tower, even in remote areas like the woods it will work." WPRI-TV CBS 12 PROVIDENCE ‘Emergency!' Stars Randy Mantooth, Kevin Tighe to Produce Paramedic Documentary The 70's TV show "Emergency!" introduced the concept of paramedics to millions of viewers and inspired thousands to become EMS practitioners themselves. Some historians say it launched modern EMS in the U.S. Now the two stars of the show are co-producing a documentary to tell the story of today's paramedic—following a pandemic that strained our healthcare system and revealed the critical role that paramedics play in caring for their communities. "My life was saved by two firefighter paramedics," said Randy Mantooth, who played Johnny Gage in the "Emergency!" series. "My sister's life was saved by a paramedic and a flight nurse. They literally gave us our lives back, and yet I don't even know their names." "Over-worked, sometimes overlooked and nearly always taken for granted, paramedics are real-world heroes," Mantooth said. "My hope is that "Into the Unknown" will provide the public with an understanding of and appreciation for the critical role these individuals play." JOURNAL OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES Retired FDNY firefighter authors book about how he became a 9/11 hero When Gerald Sanford retired from the FDNY in 1997, he never anticipated that he would return to his post after one of the darkest days in American history. In "It Started with a Helmet," Sanford and his partner, Chris Griffith, detail the gripping story of Sanford's contributions to the FDNY after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers. Sanford, a Staten Island native who grew up in Concord and later settled with his wife in Grant City, has a long history of serving the country and New York City. After graduating from McKee High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served for two years of active duty until 1962. In 1965, he was hired by the NYPD, where he worked for three years. After that, he began a three decade-long career with the FDNY. STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE NTSB: Construction Crew Blamed For Massive 2019 3-Alarm Natural Gas Line Explosion In California VIDEO: If you look closely, there are still scars left over from the explosion of a ruptured natural gas line in San Francisco's Inner Richmond neighborhood more than two years ago. The blast rocked Geary Blvd. at Parker Ave. on the afternoon of Feb. 6, 2019. A two-story building on the corner – site of Hong Kong Lounge II restaurant and residences on the second floor – was extensively damaged by a giant orange fireball that sent diners running for their lives. Sisters Cindy and Judy Chan were inside the restaurant celebrating Chinese New Year with their parents at the time, sitting right next to the fire when it erupted. "I heard popping sounds. I thought it was fire crackers because it's Chinese New Year," Cindy Chan told KPIX 5 at the time. Within seconds, all they could see was a bright orange glow surrounding the restaurant.
