| College Station: TEEX Industrial Fire School hosts 59th Training, participants in town from across the globe The 59th Annual TEEX Industrial Fire School began this week. This week alone, around 500 students are gearing up at the TEEX Brayton Fire Training Field. They are gaining hands-on experience within the fire industry, including leadership and communication skills. "We are so blessed to have this facility so close to us," a student said. Since 1929, the Annual Fire Training Schools have trained thousands of fire service and emergency personnel. This week, the focus is on industrial workers. "These students are primarily from the energy sector... refining polymer plants... chemical plants.. Tank farms... They are people who produce a product," Gordon Lohmeyer, TEEX ESTI Division Director said. "So far it's been great... got world-class facilities, world-class instruction. A lot of learning opportunities," Joel White, a student with the TEEX Industrial Fire School said. KXXV-TV ABC 25 WACO Follow Up: ‘It Was Kind Of Breathtaking,' Plano Firefighter Shares Personal Account Of House Explosion Aftermath Plano firefighters are being called heroes by the victims of Monday's house explosion. One of them shared his account with CBS 11 News. John Mueller said his fellow firefighters from Station 12 first thought the initial call might be a fire caused by a lightning strike. "There was a big storm coming through the city of Plano," Mueller said. "I guess what made this one different were reports that there was no house on the location, that there was debris everywhere." Mueller was among the first on the scene to confirm those reports of an explosion. "It was kind of breathtaking in a way, not a great way, lots of debris," he said. "We maintain awareness, knowing that where there's one explosion there could possibly be a second one." The 36-year-old veteran firefighter was surprised to find people who were nearby, still alive. KTXA-TV CBS 11 FORT WORTH Temple Fire-Rescue responds to fire at apartment complex Temple Fire-Rescue responded to a fire at Waterford Park apartments Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2:20 pm, after smoke and fire could be seen coming out of the windows. Two units at the apartments located on 3608 S 31st St. were affected by the fire, and according to Temple Fire-Rescue, the fire required a 2-Alarm response. The fire department had 11 units and 21 personnel respond to the scene. One victim was inside one of the apartment units, and has been transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. Temple firefighters were able to get the fire under control at 2:56 p.m. Investigation revealed the fire was accidental, caused by electrical issues. Crews are still on the scene at this time, with lane closures on S. 31st Street, so drivers in the area can expect traffic delays. KXXV-TV ABC 25 WACO Labor Agreements with Pharr Fire and Police Unions Approved The City of Pharr has successfully negotiated collective bargaining contracts with both Fire and Police Unions. After a two-year carryover of existing contracts, the negotiations concluded within a day of each other and resulted in 3-year contracts with each entity, incremental pay increase, and organizational modifications. "The Pharr Police Officers Association is proud to announce that after three hours of negotiation, we successfully reached an agreement regarding police labor improvements," said Sgt. Danny Garcia, Treasurer of the Pharr Police Association. "We are proud of the collaborative efforts between Mayor Dr. Ambrosio Hernandez, Pharr City Commissioners, city administration, and our police unions," he said. "Through these negotiations, our Pharr Police personnel will now receive a 15% increase over the next 3 years; 7% in year 1, 4% in year 2, and 4% in year 3," added. Sgt. Garcia. TEXAS BORDER BUSINESS Family's 7 dogs killed in Fort Bend County fire that destroyed 'all memories' A fire in Fort Bend County claimed the lives of a family's seven dogs and left one person with severe burn injuries. Now, the family is mourning their beloved pets and a community is stepping in to help. Almost nothing is left of two trailer homes, an office and a workshop where gunsmith Craig Adkins lived with his granddaughter, her boyfriend, and 11 beloved dogs. Many of the dogs were abandoned and later adopted by Adkins. Sadly, seven of the dogs did not survive the fire. Adkins is hospitalized and in intensive care as family members continue to search the property for anything that may be salvageable. "Everything is gone," said Adkins' stepson, Shane Parks. "All the memories, all the pictures that we had are pretty much gone." The fire marshal told ABC13 the cause was likely electrical. There were no working smoke detectors. Adkins is left without his house or his business. KTRK-TV ABC 13 HOUSTON New Austin Fire Station Will Serve Sunset Valley, Travis County Austin Fire Department's newest station is officially in service. Austin Fire Station 51, which is located at 5410 Highway 290, went in service at noon Sunday and will serve citizens in the Travis County and Sunset Valley areas of southwest Austin, according to fire officials. Firefighters from Station 51 responded to their first fire on Sunday, which was in the kitchen of the CK Thai Cuisine located at 5207 Brodie Lane, according to a department tweet. This is the second of five new high priority Fire-EMS stations approved by Austin City Council. The first opened last year for Del Valle and southeast Austin, officials said. | Saving firefighting history: Old trucks, apparatus on display in Virginia, elsewhere PHOTOS: A beat-up, rose-red-and-gray metal bucket with a rounded bottom dangles from an iron hook at the Manassas Volunteer Fire Company Museum. In black capital letters, it bears the word "F-I-R-E." Because of its rounded bottom, it teeter-totters and spills its contents if you try to sit it upright. The bucket has this design to deter thefts, in case a 1941 firefighter left it unattended. It is one of hundreds of firefighting artifacts displayed in the museum by the company, established in 1892. There's more: a 1940s breathing apparatus for surviving in a smoky building and several alarms from pre-siren days. In 1910, a firefighter stomped on a pedal on a 1909 Howe truck's floorboard to sound a gong. KXXV-TV ABC 25 WACO Black smoke visible for miles following Illinois warehouse fire VIDEO: Black smoke could be seen billowing from across the Mississippi River late Tuesday afternoon as firefighters responded to a warehouse fire in East St. Louis. The fire happened near the intersection of E. Broadway and N. 17th Street. The smoke began to be noticed around 5:30 p.m., though it's unclear exactly when the fire started. Firefighter's Car Stolen From Station as He Responded to Emergency Calls A D.C. firefighter who spent the night responding to emergency calls returned to the fire station Tuesday morning to find his car was gone. Engine 21 in the 1700 block of Lanier Place NW in Adams Morgan is one of the District's busier fire stations and spent the night responding to back-to-back emergency calls. At 5:30 a.m., firefighters discovered someone stole a Chevy Cruze that had been parked on a concrete pad in front of the station. The car thief entered the station and removed the victim's keys from his locker, according to the police report. The firefighter's car was the second car stolen in that same block of Lanier Place in three days. On Saturday evening, a driver who left her Toyota Camry running while making a delivery watched as someone drove away in her car. WRC-TV NBC 4 WASHINGTON DC Book tells tale of New York rescue-turned-firedog after becoming TikTok sensation A rescue-turned-firedog in Orange County now has a book written about him - after the popular pooch became an internet sensation last year. Nick, the Newburgh firedog, is not only one of the guys at the city fire department, he's also an internet sensation on TikTok. His fame is due to Assistant Chief Tim Dexter, who posted Nick on TikTok last year, which got 86,000 views - and gave Dexter the idea to write a children's book about him. Nick's story began in 2016 when firefighters found him - ironically, tied to a fire hydrant. "He was just really kind and got along with all the firemen working. He ended up staying here forever," says Dexter. Nick goes on calls and helps firefighters teach kids about fire prevention.
