VIDEO: Multiple fire crews responded to a blaze at an apartment complex on San Antonio's northwest side on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred on the 5600 block of Evers Road near Loop 410 around 5:30 p.m. The fire was contained to one building with 18 units, according to Leon Valley Fire Chief. Officials say the people in those units will be displaced. One resident had a slight burn but did not need to go to the hospital, according to fire officials. It was about 103 degrees outside as firefighters worked to knock down the fire. Fire officials say it takes twice as many firefighters to battle a blaze in extreme heat due to stress on a firefighter's body.

PHOTOS: A piece of Port Neches Fire Department history sits outside the station on Magnolia Avenue, a labor of love. The 1943 model fire hose handcart is back to its original glory thanks to the work of the department's B shift. Metal plaques at the front and rear of the cart were made and donated by Port Neches-Groves High School's machine shop students. Chief Eloy Vega said the cart was discovered by a member of the Port Neches Police Department at the site of the former fire station, which is now vacant. The cart was rusty and looked to be in somewhat despair. The shift members got together and refurbishment was done a little bit at a time and took a lot of elbow grease, Vega said. Acting Fire Capt. Gerald Finley, who is part of the group of firefighters who worked on the cart, said it took a little bit of thought as to how they wanted to approach the project.

A new Texas law that goes into effect in September allows parents in crisis to surrender a baby with complete anonymity using a newborn safety device, known as a Baby Box. Under the law, Baby Boxes can be installed in places that offer emergency services and are staffed 24 hours, such as fire and EMS stations, police stations and medical facilities. The boxes are temperature controlled and sound an audible alarm inside the facility but not outside, which gives the mother time to safely walk away, according to Monica Kelsey, founder of Safe Haven Baby Boxes, the non-profit organization that makes the boxes. "Now that the law has passed, we're getting a ton of calls from Texas," said Kelsey, a retired firefighter in Indiana who discovered she had been abandoned as a baby.

VIDEO: The University of Texas at Tyler and the City of Tyler Fire Department have partnered to host a first responder training from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday this week at the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. The fire department will participate in emergency scenarios involving the Cowan Center Vaughn Auditorium and its catwalk, which UT Tyler says is unlike any other space in the city. The partnership is an initiative of the UT Tyler Office of Environmental Health and Safety that allows the fire department to get unique training that would be helpful to UT Tyler should there ever be an incident of this type.

VIDEOS: New 911 calls are painting a dire picture in the moments leading up to the massive fire in SouthPark last month. It happened at a construction site not far from Charlotte's SouthPark Mall. Two construction workers died in the fire. That massive blaze was considered a five-alarm fire, meaning hundreds of firefighters were called to the scene. This is a portion of the transcript of one of the first calls made to 911: Dispatch: "Charlotte 911. Do you need police, fire or MEDIC?" Caller: "We have a fire! We have a fire!" Dispatch: "What's going on there?" Caller: "We have a trailer on fire! Inside the parking deck!" Dispatch: "Okay, so it's the trailer for like the back of a truck?" Caller: "Yes sir. It's a trailer that has some equipment on it. We sprayed fire extinguishers, but it continues to burn sir! We're evacuating the building!"

Roswell Fire Department (RFD) wants 12 new hires this July so they can build their staff back up to capacity. For what may be the first time ever, the RFD is hosting open tryouts on July 8 from 7-11 a.m. at the Louis Jones Training Center. The RFD is doing open tryouts in an attempt to take the anxiety out of the testing process and is hoping to diversify the force. "There's female firefighters all over the country. We just haven't had one in Roswell yet," said Fire Chief Matt Miller. While aiming for the first female firefighter, everyone is welcome. Normally the RFD recruits new firefighters from local high schools and colleges, but with social media, they've been getting new firefighters from all over the country. The RFD is hoping to extend their hiring pool and get in more Roswell locals to try out.

After being closed to traffic for 12 days, the damaged section of Interstate 95 through Philadelphia reopened Friday. A tanker truck fire beneath the interstate on June 11 caused one bridge to collapse and left another heavily damaged. Federal, state, and local entities combined to push for reopening the stretch of the interstate as quickly as possible by backfilling the area which had collapsed. New bridges are to be built at a later date, according to state authorities. "Over the past 12 days, the eyes of the nation have been on Pennsylvania. We showed them what our grit and our determination are all about," said Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro prior to opening the roadway. "We showed them good government in action, and this is what we can do when all levels of government come together to get the job done."

PHOTOS: A longtime captain with the Nashville Fire Department is going above and beyond the call of duty. Captain Tony Murrell has dedicated 19 years to serving the Nashville community, but his mission goes further than that. In 2020, Murrell donated his kidney to his sister after watching her endure nightly dialysis treatments for two long years. It was a decision that changed his life and opened his eyes to those experiencing kidney failure. Now, Captain Murrell is training to run the Chicago Marathon in the fall. "I am thrilled to be running the Chicago Marathon and taking part in these fundraisers to support the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois," Murrell said.
