VIDEO/PHOTOS: Crews with the El Paso Fire Department have been battling a large fire in South-Central El Paso since Tuesday afternoon, May 28. The fire is at a recycling plant at Paisano and Coles. No injuries have been reported at this time. The fire was originally reported as a Condition 3, meaning lots of flame and smoke were visible. It was upgraded to a three alarm fire, a serious fire where more firefighters were requested. At one point, 43 fire units and 100 firefighters were battling the blaze. El Paso Fire then said that it was bringing out 85 more firefighters. Motorists have been told to avoid Paisano between Eucalyptus and Coles. Fire suppression operations continue on the north side of the bridge. Crews are currently being assisted by recycling plant staff to move bales and ensure all fires underneath the surface are extinguished.  

VIDEO: A 16-year-old died after being trapped under a collapsed structure during severe storms in Magnolia on Tuesday, according to authorities. According to Cpt. Bryan Perry, the Magnolia Fire Department received a call about a structure collapse at about 1 p.m., which was around the same time that the storm came through with strong winds. Firefighters responded to a new subdivision of houses being constructed on Willow Heights Lane near FM 1488. Two structures collapsed, and a third was damaged. When crews arrived, they said people at the scene told them someone was stuck inside the rubble. "After we got there, another part of the building started to collapse. So we had to spend some time shoring up that part of the structure so it didn't endanger any of the firefighters that were trying to remove the debris," Perry said.  

A chlorine leak was reported in Anthony, Texas on Tuesday morning. The incident happened on Omar Street and South Street. The El Paso Fire Department assisted the West Valley Fire Department. According to EPFD spokesperson Enrique Duenas, the leak was caused by a chlorine canister that was leaking in a nearby water utility's installation. Duenas said responders contained the leak by fixing a valve and filtering the air. Officials said no injuries have been reported and there is no risk to the community.  

Officials are investigating the cause of a fire at Star Lodge motel. Officials say AFD was dispatched to a structure fire on the Amarillo Boulevard near North Jefferson Street after multiple callers reported heavy smoke in the area. According to officials, the first unit arrived to find a single-story motel with heavy smoke coming from two of the units and part of the eaves. Officials say firefighters searched the surrounding rooms to clear them of occupants and had the fire extinguished in under 20 minutes. Officials say two people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and fire crews were able to get a dog out of one of the units safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office.  

Crews responded to an Air Force fighter jet crash near University and Rio Bravo Tuesday afternoon. Lockheed Martin confirmed a F-35B fighter jet crashed just south of the Albuquerque International Sunport after a refueling stop at Kirtland Air Force Base. It was traveling from Fort Worth, Texas to Edwards Air Force Base in California. The pilot – who ejected before impact – is recovering at UNM Hospital. The fighter jet crashed and burst into flames just before 2 p.m. Tuesday. Albuquerque Fire Rescue and Bernalillo County firefighters battled the fire, but they needed help from Kirtland Air Force Base. "We carry 500 gallons of water on our apparatus and small foam tanks, but it's no match for a jet fuel fire of that scope," said Lt. Jason Fejer with AFR. Investigators are still looking into what caused the crash.  

San Diego is taking a long-awaited step toward shrinking emergency response times in hard-to-reach areas of the city and neighborhoods with high call volumes. The city launched its first roving "peak-hour" fire engine five months ago in downtown's East Village neighborhood — one of a dozen coverage gap areas where badly-needed new fire stations won't be built for years. The East Village peak-hour engine could be the first of many, with City Heights, Barrio Logan, Liberty Station and southeastern San Diego near Ocean View Boulevard among the most likely candidates. The peak-hour engines are considered a cheaper and faster way to extend the city's emergency-response coverage without building new fire stations, which require finding land and securing money for construction.  

VIDEO: A natural gas explosion explosion in Youngstown, Ohio, blew open the facade of a downtown bank building Tuesday afternoon, with seven people injured and one man killed. According to a press release from Youngstown Police Department, a 27-year-old man was killed in the explosion. That man was identified as Akil Drake, an employee at the Chase Bank where the explosion happened. During rescue efforts, the Youngstown Fire Department recovered Drake, who was dead. All other people related to this incident have been accounted for according to police. Authorities say a woman was believed to be missing, however she was later found at a hospital under a different name, according to ABC affiliate WYTV. The front of the Realty building on East Federal Street was heavily damaged.  

VIDEO: Firefighters are getting new help in navigating the clogged streets of Kissimmee. The Kissimmee Fire Department is using a state-of-the-art simulator to train firefighters on how to drive a fire truck. Deputy Chief Joseph Leone says the Sim-Tech Fire Vehicle Training Simulator will come in handy, especially for new hires. "What we want to do is put them in the driving simulator first before we put them on the street and allow them to face the reality that they're going to face heavy traffic," said Leone, "We want to put them in those scenarios before they actually drive on John Young or OBT." The simulator, which is housed in a mobile trailer, will be mandatory for all firefighters and paramedics. Training begins in June. The technology can simulate congested roads, severe weather and other issues firefighters may encounter.
