I asked, you delivered, thank you for your overwhelming support of the Lansdowne 2.0 project. Thanks to you City Council has given its approval to move forward with the Lansdowne 2.0 project!

The vote, which passed with a strong 16-9 majority, signifies a significant milestone on our journey toward enhancing the heart of our city. We're thrilled to see that this decision aligns with the preferences of two-thirds of Ottawans, as indicated by a recent poll.

But what's next, you might wonder? Are we grabbing shovels and hard hats right away? Well, not quite!

This vote serves as an official endorsement of the project, which includes a brand-new Event Centre, upgraded North Stadium Stands, and the exciting addition of more on-site residential spaces. It also secures the investment earmarked for this transformation, keeping it safe and sound, ready for action.

Our next steps involve delving into detailed design work, collaborating closely with the City (who owns these facilities), architects and various consultants. This primarily focuses on the Event Centre, as we strive to finalize designs and construction plans. Meanwhile, City Council has a bit of "homework" to complete, which includes:

• Defining a governance model for Lansdowne 2.0 (Who does what? What's our role?)

• Gathering bids from the development community via a request for proposal to build the residential component

• Amending partnership agreements with OSEG

• Reviewing the work done by the City Auditor General concerning Lansdowne

All these tasks are set to be wrapped up in Q1 and Q2 of 2024. Once the final bell rings on this homework, the vault will be unlocked, and we can start the process of applying for a building permit for the Event Centre. If all goes well, we might even see construction commence on the Event Centre late next year!
