In 2019 alone, 293.6 billion emails were sent and received each day. By 2022, that number is expected to grow to 347.3 billion daily emails.

It's no secret that email marketing continues to be the driving force for increased revenue across companies and industries of all sizes. With people being inundated with email ads every day it can be overwhelming to determine how to best incorporate your email marketing strategy to make the biggest impact with your subscribers.

The overall goal of email marketing is to keep your audience emotionally engaged until they are ready to buy. You want your audience to look forward to your emails and provide enough value to them so that they want to continue reading your email newsletters as frequently as you are sending them.

The Art Marketing Program (AMP) was designed to offer a formulaic approach for artists to easily implement our marketing strategies into your personal marketing campaign.

Great email marketing consists of telling stories that move your audience to take action.

Most people new to email marketing think that it consists of the mass-produced sales and promotional emails that you receive from retailers and other brands pushing you to buy a product or service. It is so much more than that though. Email marketing allows you to develop and send targeted and personalized messages to large markets which makes it much more efficient than separately emailing every collector or potential buyer you've ever come into contact with.

In recent years marketers have worked to find more and more ways to personalize the email marketing experience for their readers.

Personalization is essential for your email marketing because our inboxes are more cluttered than ever before.

Personalized emails have a higher open rate and can help strengthen your relationship with your audience.

Here are a few easy ways that you can start to personalize your email newsletters:

1. Send the emails from you

This may seem like a given but you'd be surprised how many people try to get creative and send their emails from unique aliases or names that are unrecognizable in an attempt to grab the reader's attention and increase open rates.

Keep it simple and send the email from your name and the same domain for every single newsletter.

2. Use a [FIRST_NAME] tag

You can personalize your emails by including your readers first name. Our FASO platform gives our artists access to an all-in-one email marketing solution which provides ways to easily personalize your email newsletters.

Did you notice when you opened your email I personally addressed you by name? With nearly 70,000 subscribers on our FineArtViews list, I unfortunately have to admit that I did not address each reader personally.

As your list continues to grow, this small feature will have a big impact on your readers to help keep your emails more personal.

3. Include a personal greeting

If you were emailing a friend to catch up, you'd probably start the email by saying something like:

"Hey [FIRST_NAME],

I hope you're having a great day! I'm so glad we could get in touch."

Try to start each email newsletter off with a personal greeting that furthers the connection between you and each of your readers.

4. Request a reply

Turn your emails into a conversation by encouraging your audience to respond to you. This will help remove the "mass-email" stigma and produce real conversations with your readers.

You can do this in a variety of ways by asking for feedback about your artwork, asking them to respond with what they'd like you to send out in your newsletters, or asking them to share their favorite piece of artwork with you. Really, anything to get the conversation started.

5. List segmentation

Segmentation has become a key component for all email marketers across every industry.

Segmenting your email list can increase your open and click rates because your audience will find your emails more relevant.

How you segment your list is entirely up to you but you can start by focusing on collectors who have purchased, collectors who have shown interest but not purchased, and people who have simply gone to your website and signed up for your newsletter.

6. Add your Signature

Include your signature at the bottom of every email. And include a picture so people can easily put a face to the name. (take a look at mine at the end of this email as an example)

Your signature reinforces who you are and creates recognition through repetition as you continue to send your emails regularly.

7. Don't forget to personally send emails, too

Personal one-on-one emails are extremely important in your overall email marketing campaign. This can include emailing a new collector thanking them for a purchase, emailing an existing collector asking them for feedback on a piece, or a follow-up email to a visitor who didn't complete a purchase.

These emails could be considered even more important than your monthly email newsletter because they're more intimate and show a deeper level of caring to your collectors.

Until next time,
