Good morning, and welcome to the August 8 edition of the Saints Insider Newsletter. Hope your Tuesday goes as smoothly as a Derek Carr two-minute drill. Two Minutes To ParadiseHere are two things that are true: The Saints have struggled to produce positive results in their two-minute offense since Drew Brees retired, and Derek Carr piled up some impressive stats in the same situations during his time with the Raiders. Monday, we got to see Carr driving the Saints offense in a pressure situation for the first time in training camp, and the he did not disappoint, completing each of his first six passes and setting the team up for a score. Insert the usual caveats about it being practice, about it being a small sample size, but if the Saints are able to get that version of Carr in clutch situations this year? Giddy up. Oh, by the way, Chris Olave looks ready to build on his really, really good rookie season. Maybe there really is reason to be excited about this Saints offense, even if it has been hit or miss at times in camp. Tell us what you thinkIf you're looking forward to getting a glimpse of Carr in game action, you're not going to have to wait long: Dennis Allen said Monday that Carr and the rest of the starters will play in this Sunday's preseason opener. That got us thinking: What is the right move here? Remember how every team used to use the same formula for playing their regular starters in the preseason? Everyone knew the third preseason game was a dress rehearsal. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. So, what do you think? Should the Saints actually be resting their starters in the preseason? Or should they be getting all these new players acclimated to game speed? Let us know in this poll, and we'll share the results later this week. Ask the InsidersFriends, you've been reading our words, now it's time for you to return the favor: This is a call for mailbag questions. Send us the Saints-related questions you want to ask (along with your first name and where you're reaching us from), and we'll do our best to answer your questions. Jim from Madisonville wanted to know who is most likely to carry most of Alvin Kamara's load during his three-game suspension. Our answer: Right now, it is definitely Jamaal Williams. The veteran running back looks like he fits seamlessly into the Saints' running scheme. He gained a reputation as a short-yardage back in Detroit, but don't be fooled, he has some burst. All that being said, rookie Kendre Miller definitely fits in here somewhere. He is an explosive downhill runner, and it would not be a surprise to see him hit a few home runs this season.Send me what else you've got to ljohnson@theadvocate.com and look for the answers over at nola.com later this week.
