Love them or hate them, for some  Alabamians, oysters are more than just a yummy delicacy. They’re a way of life.

Our coastlines produce over one million oysters a year. The farming, fishing, harvesting and serving of these creatures has a huge impact on our economy. Plus they are a vital part of the habitats in our bays, estuaries and the Gulf.

Here, you can meet some of the people in Alabama's oyster business, and watch how an oyster gets from the Gulf to your plate.
