Black on Black Project The Front Lines Sunday, October 25, 2:30-3:30 PM Admission: $12; Students: Free Join the Black On Black Project at the Cameron Art Museum for a special screening of the new short film The Front Lines, which looks at some of the history of Wilmington, N.C. Through poetry and dance, the film begins to unpack the 1865 Battle of Forks Road, the 1898 massacre, and the 1971 Wilmington Ten case. This intimate screening will take place inside CAM’s reception hall and features a Q&A with Devin Kelly, public historian for the CAM’s United States Colored Troops sculpture project, poet Johnny Lee Chapman, III, and Executive Producer Michael S. Williams. The discussion during this event will focus on the impact of the USCT in Wilmington and beyond. | |
Museum School Writing the Lived-In Body with Heather Wilson Starts October 26 Virginia Wright-Frierson's exhibition The Lived-In Body, Celebrating Women Over 65 is a stunning testimony to the beauty of the bodies of women. This writing class, which will be held in the gallery with Wright-Frierson's work, will encourage writers of all ages to be present and write about the strength, beauty, and resiliency of their bodies, as well as the distinctive stories each body tells. Writers will participate in guided meditation, gentle stretching, and affirmative, poetic, and narrative writing in a supportive environment. They will also read works by women writers for inspiration. | |

We will be cardio drumming on exercise balls to some favorite Halloween tunes. We will read select spooky stories from our Night at the Haunted Museum book, and turning the spooky stories into a marching band cadence. Over his career he has played with numerous rock, country, funk and jazz bands in Denver and Wilmington. Come Hear NC Benny Hill - Tickets on Sale Now! Saturday, November 7, 2:30 PM Don't miss Come Hear NC: Benny Hill. This concert is part of CAM's Come Hear NC series, funded in part by the North Carolina Arts Council and AARP North Carolina. Benny Hill is steeped in the tradition of many of the past greats including Julian ‘Cannonball’ Adderley, Jackie McLean, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. His improvisations on the Alto Saxophone are reminiscent of these greats, yet he has a distinct style and voice of his own. Benny is a true crowd-pleaser and never fails to raise excitement and enthusiasm while on stage. This concert will also be livestreamed on CAM's Facebook page and YouTube channel.
