Kevin Smith Shared Advice From Carrie Fisher That We All Need to Hear

Leia Organa and Rey in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker
Thank you, Kevin Smith. Sharing this story did more for me than you probably know, but taking a deep breath and thinking about turning that microscope around is a great thing to remember right now, and we have you (and, of course, Carrie Fisher) to thank for that.

The Internet Is Reminding Everyone How Toxic America’s Next Top Model Was

Tyra Banks host of America's Next Top Model and boy it was a mess
The internet remembers everything and provides plenty of ways to remind us of how incredibly different the early 2000s were, and now we are being reacquainted with how toxic America's Next Top Model was.

Gargoyles‘ Demona Is the Perfect Complex Villain

demona on gargoyles
A great villain is one we can understand, who doesn't see themself as a villain. Someone who is good at what they do and does it with style. That, my friends, perfectly describes Demona on Gargoyles.

Closed Movie Theaters Are Using Their Marquees for Humor and Hope

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 18: A man wears gloves and a bandanna across his face while riding a scooter past a shuttered movie theater, with the message 'Take Care of Each Other' displayed on the marquee, on March 18, 2020 in Beverly Hills, California. The city of Beverly Hills mandated the closure of ‘non-essential’ stores, including the famous retailers on Rodeo Drive, starting today in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Trailblazing Civil Rights Journalist Ida B. Wells Gets Due Recognition With Posthumous Pulitzer Honor

Ida B. Wells Barnett, in a photograph by Mary Garrity from c. 1893. This version has been cropped from the original photographic card to approximately the photo itself (the borders aren't quite straight, so I did the best crop I could manage with the restriction), and has also had dirt and specks removed, and the saturation very slightly tweaked.
This year's Pulitzers were a big step forward in acknowledging a lot of Black journalists, as our Vivian Kane brought up in her own coverage of the awards, but I think it's worth specifically focusing on the granting of a posthumous citation to Ida B. Wells.
