Crossing the Finish Line Together with the COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Partnership

In just one year, vaccinations have saved over 20 million lives and reduced deaths by more than 60%. But this is not enough. The COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Partnership was set up to support the many countries lagging on COVID-19 coverage and balancing various other health- and non-health priorities. Because the pandemic is not over until those most at-risk are reached.

Senior UN officials, including Secretary-General António Guterres, took part in a High-Level event at UN Headquarters in New York on Friday, noting the encouraging progress that has been made towards ending the COVID-19 pandemic, while acknowledging that work still needs to be done to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.

Hosted by Costa Rica, South Africa, and Sweden together with the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Foundation (UNF) the The Time is Now: Unlocking Ambition for Comprehensive Solutions for Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response side event was held on the occasion of the 77th UN General Assembly.
This ministerial-level event highlighted solutions to strengthen collective capacities against current and future health emergencies while fostering resilience and progress on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in order to improve the health of billions of people worldwide.

Closing the Vaccine Gap

In 2022 the world is experiencing one of the largest backslides of global immunization rates in history. Now is the only chance we have to work together, to pull resources and invest in vaccinating humanity against all diseases and illnesses. And we must do it together!

How can we boost COVID-19 vaccine coverage in lower-income countries?

COVID-19 vaccine coverage in low- and middle-income countries is increasing at a steady pace, but remains lower than higher-income nations. VaccinesWork spoke to Ted Chaiban, Head of the COVID-19 Vaccine Delivery Partnership, about how we can ensure nobody is left behind in the vaccine race.

Resources and Technical Guidance

NEW: Global Compendium of country knowledge on COVID-19 vaccination

The global COVID-19 vaccination rollout is the biggest and fastest in history and no public health intervention compares to it. In 2021, under extraordinary time constraints and severe programmatic challenges, countries started used a range of approaches and strategies in all aspects of vaccination activities, to introduce and deploy COVID-19 vaccines as rapidly and effectively as possible.

Documentation and indexing of these different approaches and strategies, provides an opportunity to foster cross-country learning, facilitate peer-to-peer problem solving, and establish a pool of knowledge and skills to help inform actions that may be leveraged in a future health crisis that requires vaccination. For this reason, and with thanks to all stakeholders involved a repository of implementation experiences has been developed as a clearinghouse to capture and preserve key country experiences.

Global Compendium of country knowledge on COVID-19 vaccination topic areas include:

The compendium will assist national authorities who are responsible for managing or making key decisions on the deployment, implementation and monitoring of COVID-19 vaccination, as well as those who are working on routine immunization and life-course vaccination at country level.
