The Lunch Line: The COVID pill is in Louisiana -- but supplies are 'very limited'

By Bob Warren

The COVID pill is here: Louisiana pharmacies now have a supply of the first pill to combat COVID. But -- you see where this is going, right? -- there's a catch. The state Health Department says that supply is “very limited.” Here’s what we know.

Another record day: There were 8,455 confirmed cases and an additional 4,012 probable COVID cases reported Thursday by the Department of Health. That, sadly, is a new high. Gov. John Bel Edwards will talk about the latest surge during a news conference this afternoon.

Check back with NOLA.com details as they emerge.

In harm's way: The state’s fastest-growing areas are also the places most at risk from the effects of climate change, the latest census numbers reveal. Two-third’s of Louisiana's residents now live along or below the Interstate 10 corridor, an area that's prone to all manner of climate disasters. Halle Parker and Jeff Adelson have the story.

Luxury toothpaste: A New Orleans-based luxury toothpaste company aiming to harness the dental benefits of chocolate is at the center of a bitter feud among its four founders, business writer Tony McAuley reports.

Highs and lows: Interesting year for New Orleans sports fans, right? Columnist Rod Walker hits some of the highs and lows in this recap.

One more shameless promo: How about a subscription to NOLA.com? Best deal on the web - $4 for 4 months. Check it out. (Subscri, people, so I can stop asking!)
