One year after the introduction of the five-year strategic plan for diversity, equity and inclusion, students, faculty and staff gathered Wednesday evening to evaluate the planâs effectiveness.
Dear subscribers,
Today, we take a look at Brandon Peters, Michigan football's redshirt freshman quarterback, who will be starting in this weekend's game against Maryland. Wednesday evening, students, staff and faculty gathered to evaluate the University's strategic plan for diversity, equity and inclusion. Additionally, University broke ground Wednesday morning at the William Monroe Trotter Multicultural Centerâs new location on State Street. We also have a reflection on being Filipino American, and the B-Side explores Jewish representation on modern television.
All the best,
The Michigan Daily
After three decades of minority student activism and ultimately, organizing for a more centrally located multicultural center and more emphasis on students of color at the University, the University of Michigan broke ground Wednesday morning at the William Monroe Trotter Multicultural Centerâs new location on State Street.
But nothing snowballed, and now Peters is â based on Jim Harbaughâs press conference Monday â unquestionably Michiganâs starting quarterback.
âThat baby is so white,â a stranger said aloud at the grocery store, alarmed at the sight of a dark Southeast Asian man carrying a pale baby girl. It was 1998, potentially 1999. I wish I had my own recollection of that day, but the âwhite babyâ was me.
Part of what makes TV so entertaining as a medium is being able to not only see ourselves portrayed on-screen, but also to see the subtle nuances of our identities in those portrayals.
