Welcome to the March 29 edition of the Daily Digest. While we all may be staying at home, the Daily Digest is here to bring you the top news stories of each week on campus and beyond.
This week, The Daily holds its monthly interview with University President Mark Schlissel over video conference, students are reimbursed for unused meal plans and political campaigns have to shift strategies in the wake of COVID-19.
According to an email sent to The Daily by University spokesman Rick Fitzgerald, University of Michigan students with meal plans will be reimbursed for meal credits lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students will receive dining credits equal to their current unused meals and Dining Dollars to be used when classes resume.
As cases of COVID-19 rise in Michigan, the University of Michigan has limited all laboratory research deemed ânoncriticalâ until further notice.
In addition, the University has asked research labs to donate available supplies, including face masks and gowns, to the hospital to prepare for an influx of cases in the coming weeks.
Due to the rise of cases of COVID-19 in Michigan, traditional campaign mobilization strategies have either been upended or called off.
While the campaigns of both Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and former Vice President Joe Biden have mandated staffers to work remotely, student organizers have transitioned to the use of digital strategies to continue campaigning.
Public Policy junior Amanda Kaplan and LSA junior Sav Nandigama will serve as president and vice president of the Central Student Governmentâs 10th Assembly.
Kaplan and Nandigama ran with the party Mobilize, with a platform focused on sustainability, affordability, accessibility, student wellness and preparing for the 2020 U.S. presidential debate being held on campus in October.
