The Senate Advisory Committee on University Affairs met virtually Monday to discuss feedback from their July 8 town hall with University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel and results from a fall semester instruction survey.
The survey and surrounding discussions included responses from faculty in regards to comfort teaching in person, meeting with students and more. Despite precautions, 47.54 percent of staff members who responded to the survey said they were not willing to teach in person.
Dear subscribers,
Good evening,
Welcome to the July 19 edition of the Daily Digest. With updates emerging regarding the fall semester, face coverings and more related to COVID-19, now is the best time to keep up with the top news stories on campus and beyond.
This week, SACUA talks fall semester faculty concerns, the University releases plans for ticketing for fall sports and the University requires face masks on all campus grounds.
Michigan answered one of the many questions surrounding this yearâs uncertain situation for fall sports on Wednesday, releasing its plan for football tickets.
This fall, there will be no season tickets and no tickets open to the general public. Instead, individual game tickets will be sold to a mix of season ticket holders and students as capacity permits â a number still undecided.
Susan M. Collins has been approved as the University of Michiganâs next provost after being appointed interim provost in March.
Collins initially replaced former Provost Martin Philbert after he was placed on administrative leave in March following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. Collins is a former Dean of the Ford School of Public Policy and a former economics and public policy professor.
Effective immediately, the University of Michigan will require all students, staff, faculty and visitors to wear a face covering while anywhere on campus grounds, University President Mark Schlissel wrote in an email to the campus community Wednesday afternoon.
The new policy will apply to community members inside buildings, outdoors and on University transportation. While homemade masks, scarves, bandanas and handkerchiefs are acceptable, the policy recommends face coverings that seal as tightly as possible to the face.
This week, multiple women have spoken about former University of Michigan Provost Martin A. Philbertâs alleged sexual misconduct for the first time since the investigation began.
University alum Emily Renda spoke to Michigan Radio about her interactions with Philbert dating back to 2012. Renda, who worked as a global health and student life coordinator at the School of Public Health where she was previously a student, is one of the first of alumni to publicly accuse Philbert of sexual misconduct.
