Jazz Fest's local flavor, a brazen shooting, a quest for cool
By Drew Broach | Deputy metro editorLOCAL FLAVOR: Last month, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival announced the headliners for the the pandemic-delayed celebration. On Thursday, it detailed the daily schedule and added the local flavor: the gospel choirs, social aid and pleasure clubs, Mardi Gras Indians, Cajun and zydeco bands, brass bands, traditional and contemporary jazz musicians that give Jazz Fest its distinctive, and unique, identity and personality. Get your tickets early. INEXCUSABLE: A brazen daylight shooting on a quiet residential street in Slidell was recorded on video and led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man accused of firing bullets at a pickup truck because of road rage. COOLING OFF: New Orleans is coming off one of its wettest springs in recorded history and experiencing its hottest temperatures in 30 years. Now, however, Mayor LaToya Cantrell has committed to a global initiative to expand its urban green space, the goal being to cool the city and reduce flooding. All this and much more are in today’s Lunch Line and on NOLA.com. Thanks for starting your day with us. D.B. |
