DeerLake Weekly Letter, Girls in My Circle Posted: 18 Mar 2016 08:58 PM PDT Howdy everyone, Easter is getting closer and with it - the coming of spring and a feeling of renewed life. The local garden and feed store sent out the word today that the baby chicks were in already. As Easter draws near we are reminded of the new beginning which we have been given through our Lord dying on the cross for us. It is fitting that spring and Easter go hand in hand. There are so many things to look forward to such as warm summer days, summer vacations, green pastures and long lazy days on the beach, or anywhere else you relax. I spent my early years in Rancho Cordova California. I hold fond memories for that California life. It was nicely paved streets, sidewalks with gutters and good schools. We played basketball, baseball, foursquare, tether ball, dodge ball, football, and many more kinds of ball games. Our street was quiet enough that we could play right out in the middle of the street. I spent four years in little league baseball, oh man that was fun; had my name in the local newspaper many-a-time. Always felt bad that I did not keep those paper clipping to show my kids and grand kids. My first year in baseball we came in last place out of ten teams, we were the worst team ever. The next three years I was the pitcher, and each year we got a little-bit better till my last year when we got first place. Man, after that last game I was feeling on top of the world. Becca and I had a nice day-out last weekend, looking for windmills. Traveling the back roads of Montana, we enjoyed views of the Mission Mountains and the Clark Fork river. The plan was to stop by the National Bison Range in Moiese Montana. It was a little early in the year for that though; the gates to the upper portion of the range do not open until the middle of May. I suppose that most of the bison are getting ready to calf now, so they keep them closed-off to the public; it was a great day anyway, always good to be out and about taking pictures with friends. We found old beat-up windmills and some barns long forgotten. The skies were blue and the temperatures had that perfect springtime feel. We'll be off to Glacier Park early tomorrow morning on another photo shoot. They have lifted a few of the barricades on the roads and we are now allowed to drive up a bit farther on the Going-To-The-Sun-Road. Maybe we will catch-site of a few baby animals in the park tomorrow. What we see outside our window. The Robins have arrived in force, more than we ever remember seeing around here. Geese also just arrived, seen a few hundred on the way home from town today. I should really get out the cameras and get some pictures. Snow is melting, the chickens are looking nice again, laying eggs like crazy. Just about all of our 2,000 foot driveway is back to gravel now, hurray! There is still 2 feet of packed-snow all along the sides. It always takes a bit more time to melt off all the piles of snow. Soon, I will be able to park my plow and change-out the studded tires for some quiet-driving tires. We're not complaining, we know snow is the price we pay for living in such a wonderful place. Without the snowpack in the Rockie Mountains, we would not be blessed with the clear rivers and springs that grace our quiet little valley. I believe that a great many of you are enjoying the beginning of spring now. I can imagine the crocuses popping up and the new buds on all the trees. Our daughter in Kentucky even has had to mow the grass. Last week, Becca told you about making a music video for her school assignment.
