Every Time I See Lizzo Trending I Know It’s Over a Bad Take About Her Body, Even if It’s in the Name of “Body Positivity”

Lizzo performs during "One World: Together At Home" presented by Global Citizen on April, 18, 2020.

Dealing with folks within a movement labeled as positive who only want this fraction of you that stands tall is inhumane. Also, it's beyond ironic that a movement built on "being comfortable in your own skin" has this fine print that gets missed, this part where you don't get to define what is and isn't comfortable for you.

Review: In Promising Young Woman, There’s No Such Thing as a Good Man

In a scene from Promising Young Woman, Cassie (Carey Mulligan) drinks from a pink straw while reading a book with a pink cover.

Promising Young Woman is the kind of move that was designed to be divisive–to stir the pot and start some capital-d Discourse.

Han Solo in Star Wars

Here's why these glimpses are so great: it's not the epic movie we're getting, but the craft and cast behind it.

The Latest 2020 Development? One of the Zodiac Killer’s Ciphers Was Finally Cracked.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jake Gyllenhaal in Zodiac

Would I love 2020 if we somehow figured out who the Zodiac Killer was this year? Yes. Simple as that. It would make me, personally, feel better about everything, but also, I would then like for David Fincher to make an even longer version of Zodiac with this new development. Thank you.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League “Boasts” an F-Bomb-Dropping Batman—Yay?

Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) gives Batman (Ben Affleck) an incredulous look in Justice League.

"Here's one piece of information nobody knows: The movie is insane and so epic and is probably rated R — that's one thing I think will happen, that it will be an R-rated version, for sure."

The Big Crime of Hulu’s Hardy Boys? How Boring It Is.

the hardy boys are white and boring

Hulu's The Hardy Boys took the blandest, most boring property from the collective American childhood and somehow found a way to make it even more boring.

Review: Wolfwalkers Perfectly Illustrates the Majesty of Hand Drawn Animation

WolfWalkers (2020)

Wolfwalkers is the latest animated feature from Cartoon Saloon, an Irish animation film and television studio based in Kilkenny. They are responsible for The Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, The Breadwinner, and now Wolfwalkers, a gorgeous and melodic film about the relationship between nature and humanity.

Death of Black Country Star Charley Pride Raises Questions About CMAs’ COVID Guidelines

Regardless of whether he contracted COVID at the event, Pride is still another man, another Black man, who died from this pandemic in the United States who didn't have to. Now, yet another family will have to find a way to mourn someone who meant so much to so many, in the midst of all this chaos and madness.

Monday Anime Round-up: Pink Haired Boy Makes a New Friend, a Stressed Detective Smokes a Lot, and a Doctor Brings Da Beat!

Screenshot of Itadori and Yoshino talking about movies

Welcome to the Monday Anime Round-up, a weekly series where I talk about the anime I watched over the weekend. Um. hopefully weekly. Assuming I can update this more often than I update my fics (I'm sorry!) This will, most likely, be currently airing series, but there's always room for me to catch up on the other 3.14159~ shows I've been neglecting.

But it would be nice to see this version of Peter Quill on screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I'm just not holding my breath for it.

Movie Review: Amazon’s Sound of Metal Is the Opposite of Inspiration Porn. And That’s Great.

Riz Ahmed signs the letter R in sound of metal

Sound of Metal is not that movie and it's infinitely better because of that. It's a rough, real story about a person who becomes deaf, but who is also an addict, a musician, and a restless soul.
