Among the many pitfalls facing CIOs in their quest to find the right fit for AI — from lack of skills and poor data quality, to competing priorities and legacy systems that just limp along — one that’s particularly unsettling is the surprising rate of people already in the enterprise who deliberately sabotage AI efforts. It might sound like something out of a Brian De Palma film, but a recent study with a healthy sample size of 1,600 knowledge workers and C-suite executives found that nearly a third admitted to actively undermining their organization’s AI efforts — a third!
“This often stems from fear of job displacement, lack of understanding of AI’s benefits, or resistance to change,” says Orla Daly, CIO at Skillsoft. Therefore it’s crucial, she adds, that leaders understand AI and articulate its positive impact on talent and their roles. Clearly, the problem is close — closer than you might think.
