The free float is over at Bayou Boogaloo. Deputy shooting in Terrytown.

By Bob Warren

Flotilla fees: There’s a big change coming to Bayou Boogaloo. For the first time, the Mid-City festival plans to charge admission to those who paddle or float up along Bayou St. John. If you’ve seen photos of the bayou from previous fests, you know just how many people like to float in. Doug MacCash has the details here.

Deputy shooting: The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting involving one of its own. The agency said this morning that a man carrying a “cutter mattock,” better known as a grub axe, was fatally shot after charging at deputies last night in Terrytown. This is a developing story.

That Brees tweet: For anyone reading Drew Brees’ tweet last weekend that he might come back to play, columnist Jeff Duncan has this message: It ain’t happening. As Jeff’s column makes clear, nobody involved with the Saints is thinking of a Brees comeback.

That awful loop: Get ready to hear a lot about the “Loop Current.” For those in the dark, we’ll just say those are two words you don’t want to hear during hurricane season. Nick Shay of the University of Miami calls it the 800-lb. gorilla of hurricane risks. Ugh!

Brews news: A new brewery will soon call the Lafitte Greenway home. Our food guy Ian McNulty writes that Skeeta Hawk will feature 12 taps with a rotating beer selection.

Hope you enjoyed today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. And of course, be sure to check out NOLA.com for more news throughout the day.
