AND THEY’RE OFF! If the Louisiana gubernatorial campaign were a horse race, the track announcer would be saying that state Attorney General Jeff Landry has burst out of the starting gate and claimed the inside rail. He outmaneuvered his potential opponents to nab the state Republican Party’s endorsement in November, and has secured the backing of GOP heavyweights such as Eddie Rispone, Lane Grigsby, U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins, former Rep. Ralph Abraham and Donald Trump Jr. Landry says he’s in for the long haul, even if U.S. Sen. John Kennedy, a fellow Republican, joins the race.
AFTER TORNADOES, A COLD SNAP: As utility crews worked Friday to restore power to the last remaining electricity customers who lost it to tornadoes in four New Orleans area parishes, a fuller picture of the storm devastation was emerging. Next up: a weekend cold snap, followed by even chillier weather — and possibly freezing temperatures — through Christmas.
CONTEMPT OF COURT: When he pleaded guilty to obscenity, for an after-hours sexual performance with two professional dominatrices on the altar of his Pearl River church, former Roman Catholic priest Travis Clark agreed not to gain money or notoriety from the case. The judge suspended his three-year prison sentence and put him on probation. Now, however, Clark has been imprisoned for six months for contempt of court, because he recently sat for a television interview about his transgression.
