Join me in conversation with Charlotte Higgins | I've written about class as a Guardian columnist. But this time it's different. In my new book, An Uneasy Inheritance, I examine my own family history – which, in addition to my writer father, Philip, and my historian grandfather, Arnold, includes the Glenconners, Jessica Mitford and Bertrand Russell. I come from a long line of radicals, reformers and rebels, and this book is about that liberal heritage - about generations of lives lived on the left, mostly struggling to be good but inevitably never being good enough. On Wednesday 31 May I will be talking to my colleague Charlotte Higgins at a Guardian Live online event. We'll talk about the state of class in Britain, the myth of mobility, the guilt of privilege, and my 50 years in British political journalism. The event will be livestreamed globally, and tickets are available here. I hope you can join us. | Book tickets | |
