| | | | | Near Miss | Man Arrested After Trying to Assassinate Argentina’s Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner was greeting supporters outside her home Thursday night when a gunman tried to shoot her in the face at point-blank range. “Cristina remains alive because, for a reason not yet technically confirmed, the gun, which contained five bullets, did not fire,” said President Alberto Fernández in a late night address to the nation. A 35-year-old Brazilian man was arrested at the scene. While his motives remain unclear, Fernández de Kirchner is a deeply divisive figure who served as president from 2007 to 2015. Ukraine said the restrictions imposed by Russia mean “it will be difficult for the IAEA to give an objective assessment of the situation.” Russia, meanwhile, accused Ukraine of trying to retake the plant by using the inspectors as human shields. Over 90,000 cases of diarrhea were reported in Sindh province in just 24 hours. Help has come from China, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Uzbekistan and the UAE. The U.S. has also pledged $30 million worth of aid. Pakistan and the U.N. blame the unusually heavy and early monsoon rains on climate change. | | | Old Bones | Africa’s Oldest Dinosaur Unearthed in Zimbabwe A nearly complete skeleton of a dinosaur that lived 230 million years ago was discovered in the Zambezi Valley. Mbiresaurus raathi was about the length of a Shetland pony and, despite standing on two legs, was only 3 feet tall. The find dates back to the Triassic period, when dinosaurs were just emerging, and the Zambezi excavations also unearthed protomammals known as cynodonts, weird beaked reptiles called rhynchosaurs and armored crocodilians. The discovery helps paleontologists understand dinosaur evolution: All of the oldest finds — from Patagonia, Brazil, India and now Zimbabwe — come from a hot, humid band in the Pangea supercontinent. Or at least they did. A robot called TX SCARA, powered by an AI brain called GORDON, has been rolled out in 300 FamilyMart stores and counting. TX SCARA can restock up to 1,000 cans and bottles every day — and, unlike humans, doesn’t mind working in the cold confines of the refrigerator section. “We want to automate all the repetitive jobs and boring jobs done by humans,” said Jin Tomioka, CEO of the company behind the robots. From there she became director of the Southern Negro Youth Congress. Together with her husband, James E.
