The Hardest People to Teach | When we’ve been unable to attend church during the pandemic, I whipped out my Bible and tried to preach to my children on Sunday mornings. I say “tried” because it wasn’t always a success. “Boring,” my six-year-old loudly complained during one sermon. During another my toddler walked up and handed me a full diaper. Tough crowd. I’ve always said that if you want to learn how to teach the Bible, start by trying to teach children. It’s tough to teach kids! Yes, they’re open-minded and pliable—but they also have short attention spans and less inhibitions than adults. Like my daughter demonstrated, if they’re bored, they’ll let you know! This week we’re featuring resources that will help you grab kids’ attention—and teach them about God. The first resource is our popular Children’s Bulletins. With pictures, puzzles, and exercises, they really help bring Bible stories to life. Also, check out How to Teach Preschoolers about God. Understanding and adapting to how preschoolers learn will enable your ministry to teach in this critical window with creativity, effectiveness, and clarity. |
