One of the most compelling things about Blessed Solanus Casey is how modern his story is.
Hello, John! One of my favorite details about the life of Blessed Solanus Casey is that, before he attended seminary, he was a streetcar operator. There's something compelling about stepping out of a downtown office building, seeing a streetcar gliding past, and thinking about a man who's one step from sainthood as the driver. It makes God feel very close by. That, I think, is one part of what makes Solanus Casey a fascinating figure. His example shows us that God is everywhere—in a church, in nature, in the city, in you, in me, and on the streetcar. If you want to read more about the life of Solanus Casey (including the story of how a tragedy on the streetcar tracks spurred him to dedicate his life to God), pick up our newly updated biography, Gratitude and Grit. |
