Greetings, LSU newsletter people. Today's installment is on the light side, but only so that we can getting a running start on the loads of stories, columns and features we will have for you between now and the Tigers' Sept. 4 season opener against Florida State in the Caesars Superdome. One of the most crucial elements to the Tigers' preparation for said opener is getting the offensive line settled. And one of the keys to getting the offensive line settled is finding a center. Meet Garrett Dellinger. LSU moved him from guard to center because coach Brian Kelly wants someone beefier in the middle. It looked like a possibliy failed experiment a couple of weeks ago, but Kelly said Dellinger's snapping ability has improved greatly of late. A lot of this "improvement" takes place in practice behind closed doors which means we all have to take Kelly's word for it, but the proof will be in the blocking (and snapping) against the Seminoles. Wednesday marked 11 days until the season opener — an opener for LSU, FSU hosts Duquesne on Saturday (4 p.m., ACC Network) — so our book excerpt is about one of the Tigers' best defensive players ever: linebacker Bradie James. James and Trev Faulk formed a formidable linebacking duo for LSU in 2000 and 2001, and James came back with an amazing year on his own in 2002.
