The NEW $6m Wetlands Precinct opens! The culmination of 20 years planning was celebrated recently at the opening of the City of Cockburn Wetlands Precinct after providing $6m to fund the upgrade. The unique precinct on the north eastern side of Walliabup-Bibra Lake is home to not-for-profit organisations WA Wildlife (formerly Native ARC), The Wetlands Centre Cockburn and the Bibra Lake Scout Group. The redevelopment aimed to create a state-of-the-art integrated education and rehabilitation hub featuring elements of Ecological Sustainable Design (ESD). The redevelopment has been enhanced by generous Lotterywest grants of more than $2.2m for vital facility fit out and development of programs and training/education opportunities. Bibra Lake Fun Run this Sunday! Join us for a walk, jog or timed run around our beautiful Bibra Lake this Sunday, 12 September. Replacement equipment will be installed at 14 Cockburn playgrounds in 2021-22, based on condition reports from yearly inspections. We have prepared several similar replacement options for each playground, and want to know which one you prefer for your local park. The designs are concepts only and based on providing similar types of play elements that currently exist at the playgrounds. The program does not include adding new things like seating, shade or BBQs. After the feedback period, we will replace the existing playgrounds with the preferred design in the 2021-22 financial year. What suburbs are the playgrounds in? Suburbs where playgrounds are scheduled for renewal include Atwell, Aubin Grove, Beeliar, Jandakot, Lake Coogee, South Lake, Success and Yangebup.
Fremantle Biennale coming to Coogee Beach For the first time ever, the City is a partner sponsor of the public art festival, Fremantle Biennale, 19-20 November at Coogee Beach. The City is sponsoring a choreographed drone light show re-creating the first stories of Whadjuk Nyoongar Country. Led by emerging Nyungar artist Ilona McGuire, a fleet of more than 160 drones equipped with LED lights will take flight over the river and ocean to tell ancient and living stories of place. Further artwork's from Australia and around the world will be presented as part of the festival in Fremantle, Cockburn and Melville from Friday 5 November to Sunday 21 November 2021. The festival aims to reveal and celebrate the Fremantle (Walyalup) regionās distinctive culture, community and history.

Thank you to the 1,000 plus Cockburn residents who completed our online feedback form, participated in workshops and visited us at our shopping centre pop-ups. You told us what was important to you in a service, what you think about the current system and alternative ways to collect bulk waste. We are now reviewing your input. Your feedback will help us understand what we can do to ensure we are delivering a cost-effective bulk waste verge collection service that meets our communityās needs, and meets waste reduction targets for a more sustainable future.
State funding boost for Goodchild Park Phoenix Lacrosse Club has 570,000 extra reasons to celebrate its 125th anniversary this year, with the State Government contributing $570,000 to the $1m City of Cockburn upgrade of clubrooms at Goodchild Park in Hamilton Hill. Construction will begin late this year and finish by mid-2022. The upgrade and extension of the clubrooms will help increase participation in sports and physical activity, especially among women with new unisex changerooms, improved toilets, CCTV and passive lighting to safely access the reserve at night.

The $28.7m upgrade to Karel Avenue is complete After several years lobbying for the project to ease traffic congestion in Cockburn Central, the upgrade to Karel Avenue is complete! The upgrade was vital to free local commuters of a road network that was struggling to keep up with the areaās rapid population expansion, and included:Widening Karel Avenue to four lanes, creating a dual carriageway from Farrington Road to Berrigan DriveNew dual carriageway bridge over Roe Highway to accommodate track duplication for the Thornlie-Cockburn LinkRemoval of a bottleneck at Farrington Road where two lanes previously merged into oneNew shared paths between Berrigan Drive and Farrington Road.
The new Treeby Community and Sports Centre The new $6.7m Treeby Community and Sports Centre is taking shape and will be an excellent addition to the town's centre, helping to create a vibrant hub for the growing community of Treeby and surrounding suburbs. Not only will it help increase local participation in sport and physical activity, the new centre will have a variety of community spaces that can cater for different uses including water based painting and pottery, yoga and meditation, and cooking to name a few. With a modern kitchen and canteen and large function and meeting spaces, the venue can be hired out for all types of events. There is also ample storage available for users of the facility, due to open early to mid 2022.

Cam-Map WA is a secure, comprehensive database of all voluntarily registered CCTV systems across Western Australia.
