NARVESON | Staff writer Days after a state Supreme Court ruling set the stage for Louisiana's newest town to move forward out of legal purgatory following its 2019 vote to incorporate, organizers of the City of St. George say they're done celebrating: It's time to get down to business. At a press conference Monday, the city's backers unveiled a transition team and their next steps forward. Gov. Jeff Landry will need to appoint a mayor and five council members to serve until voters can choose their own leaders in the next election. Organizers also said they are considering legal action against East Baton Rouge Parish to recoup tax money collected during the years-long legal battle that stalled St. George's incorporation. Xavier University and Ochsner Health on Monday announced the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine, creating a historic partnership and becoming the sixth HBCU in the country to launch an allopathic medical school.
