A Profession in Transition |
|
Without librarians, a library building is merely a warehouse of information. It’s the librarian that makes a library what it is. And the library profession, much like the library itself, is undergoing profound change. As many of the activities of the library have moved online, the essential role of the librarian has had to adapt to keep up with broader shifts in technology, society, and demographics. And after the onset of the pandemic, librarians became vital partners with scholars, instructors, students, and patrons in a way few had experienced before. It has arguably elevated the profession to a position that is far more technical and diverse, in terms of roles and responsibilities, than it has ever been. The Library of the Future explores the transformation libraries and librarians have undergone in recent years, the ways they’ve adapted to campus changes, and the larger lessons they've learned about how colleges and universities are reshaping to fit current needs.
