Critical connections: In Louisiana, nearly 40 people a day call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Via Link, a New Orleans nonprofit, handles most of those calls. But as demand grows, Via Link can no longer rely on private donations alone to cover its costs. If nothing changes, the agency will likely have to stop answering calls in December.
