A few days ago, we shared with you The Living Planet Report 2018 which showed alarming trends in nature loss and how the natural resources and systems we depend upon are under severe threat.
Today, we want to share a story of hope. Amid the statistics, the Living Planet Report also shows us how we can all play our part to turn things around. From overexploitation to pollution to our food choices we can rewrite our relationship with the planet and live in harmony with nature.
Watch this powerful 2-minute animation looking at the incredible growth of human society and the impact we’ve had on our planet.
And it’s not just us as individuals. We are also working with governments and institutions around the world to move nature up the political agenda. Because when we push nature on top of everybody’s to-do list, it can no longer be ignored.
This week will mark the start of COP14, the UN Biodiversity Conference, in Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, where important discussions impacting the future of our shared home will take place.
As we all aim to act for nature, WWF will be present in the conference rooms urging governments to safeguard nature for each of us across the globe by:
1. Making nature’s political relevance clearer than ever before. 2. Building a powerful movement across governments and NGOs to protect and restore nature 3. Securing ambitious commitments to deliver lasting change from governments and others, together with clear ways to hold them to account.
As this video created by our friends at UN Biodiversity demonstrates, our message is clear: Nature Matters.
If you are interested to know more about #COP14, subscribe to our special coverage of this event. If we are to protect our planet and the resources that we depend on for our survival and well-being, we need a New Deal for Nature and People in 2020. And COP14 is our moment to make sure we get the ball rolling. Together, it’s possible.
