The annual #RCGSPolarPlunge is back and this year we are taking it across Canada! Last year the Plunge saw the Hon. Catherine McKenna, RCGS Honorary President Perry Bellegarde, Explore podcast host David McGuffin and Canadian Geographic Editor-In-Chief Alexandra Pope take the plunge into Meech Lake. This year, Fellows of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society have joined the challenge to help raise critical funds in support of our programming!
As the media landscape continues its rapid evolution, we are constantly looking for new ways to deliver impactful stories about topics that matter the most to Canadians. In 2019, Canadian Geographic launched the Explore podcast, inviting audiences in Canada and around the world to hear from some of today’s most fascinating thought leaders in geography, earth science and exploration. Our goal is to raise $25,000! All funds raised will help the Society continue to provide you with the rich storytelling and engaging interviews that take place under the Explore banner. If you donate today, not only will you get to see notable Canadians and RCGS Fellows plunge in frigid cold waters across the country, but you will also help us inspire the next generation of explorers, share stories that build understanding, and help address some of the most pressing challenges facing us today. This year we are joined by world renowned storm chaser and RCGS Explorer-in-Residence George Kourounis, Mount Royal University professor and researcher Lynn Moorman, Canadian Geographic Director of Digital and Video Andrew Lovesey and many more!
With a donation of $500 or more, your name will be included in the May/June issue of Canadian Geographic! If you donate $1,000 or more, not only will your name be included in the next issue of the magazine, but we will recognize your gift with an engraved paver, placed in front of 50 Sussex, Canada’s Centre for Geography and Exploration and headquarters of Canadian Geographic.
