Learning and applying information to move your life and business forward is a guaranteed path to success. I’ve been using books to do this for most of my adult life. But I’ve always been a big reader, ever since I was a kid. That’s why I don’t think much about this habit until asked about it… And I’ve had several clients ask me recently, “Craig, how do you find time to read so much?” First, I’ll be honest... there are stretches of 2-3 months at a time where I won’t read at all. But because I love reading... eventually I get back on track. And while I still don’t read as much as I’d like... I’ve finally figured out how to up my game. Here’s a few of the things that help me fly through books and soak up their lessons like a sponge: 1. I just downloaded the Kindle App to my phone... that allowed me to get halfway through Patrick Bet-David’s book – Your 5 Next Moves – on a recent flight. Plus it’s easy to read on my phone while standing in lines... rather than scrolling the gram. 2. I don’t have kids. ;) 3. I don’t spend my free time doing things that a lot of my clients do, such as home renovations, playing golf or poker, getting my pilot’s license, or watching videos on YT. 4. I leave books EVERYWHERE... I have multiple books in the bedroom, the bathroom, the kitchen, my office, the TV room, and even my home gym. 5. Because of that... if I have 5 minutes, I’ll often pick up a book and get through 2 pages rather than scrolling my phone 6. I read fast... I’ve done speedreading books (can’t remember the names, haha), and asked a lot of other prolific readers – like Frank Den Blanken and Mark Ford – for how they read so much. 7. I place a high value on reading... I enjoy it... I’m introverted by nature and love to “be in my own head”. I find watching videos and live presentations as painful as getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist... therefore, books are my default learning mode. But… that doesn’t mean books need to be YOUR default learning mode. Bottom Line: No one is giving out medals for reading a lot of books. Joel Marion built his online fitness business and his supplement company BioTrust from nothing to $100million per year without reading a single book in that 7-year span. Books are neither necessary nor sufficient for getting rich, finding love, or living a great life. However... They most certainly can help. But so can going to Masterminds, watching YouTube videos and documentaries, listening to Ted talks, and spending hours on coffee dates with mentors. There is no one-and-only way to get all the knowledge you need. So don’t compare my book reading to yours... Instead, focus on what matters. Which is ... Building your wealth and making time for what matters in life.
