Dear reader,

Women and men have built the world together. Our stories and our struggles are deeply connected. So why is it that women’s achievements and contributions have been so routinely neglected, overlooked or misattributed throughout centuries? Women aren't just mothers and wives: they are scientists, thinkers, storytellers, entrepreneurs and warriors, and achievers of great things.

But the silencing of women’s voices is not a thing of the past: Donald Trump’s return to power and attacks on reproductive care, the Iraqi parliament passing a law permitting child marriage, the Taliban’s brutal regime in Afghanistan, and the alarming rise of right-wing populism around the world are all very real threats to the rights of women and many marginalised people today.

In the month celebrating International Women’s day, I’ll be joining Sandi Toksvig, the Guardian’s Emma Graham-Harrison and Rukhshana Media’s Zahra Joya to discuss both historical and present-day silencing of women. We will be sharing the inspiring stories of women who are challenging oppression – whether from the Middle East, Africa, Asia or North America— in the face of overwhelming discrimination, inequality or even violence. The stories that bring hope and much-needed optimism in their unwavering resistance and remind us of the power of feminist movements to dare to dream of a just and positive future, not only for women and girls, but for everyone. This is also your chance to ask us your questions. Most importantly, it is a chance for all of us to connect in these broken times and remember that we are not alone.
