Aspiring teachers receive College scholarships

“I went from a kid scared to share his ideas, bounded by his wheelchair and what he thought he couldn’t do, to an independent, goal-driven, and confident young man.”

“I plan to acknowledge and celebrate ethnic minorities and marginalized individuals who contribute to the diverse fabric of Canada.”

“Teaching is powerful and life-changing, and I cannot think of a more exciting career for myself.”

“I want to be a role model for showing kindness, compassion, empathy, positivity, and leadership in order for my students to be contributing members of society.”

These inspiring quotes were provided by the four most recent recipients of the College’s scholarships. Each year, the College awards scholarships to help fund the studies of four exemplary teacher candidates who are enrolled in an accredited Ontario teacher education program. Learn more about this year's recipients and how to apply on the College website.

Expanding accessibility in Ontario classrooms

As Ontario’s teaching regulator, the College is committed to the continued development of learning spaces that support the achievements and well-being of the more than two million students in Ontario’s education system. With that objective in mind, we partnered with Silent Voice and Services linguistiques CB to create American Sign Language (ASL) and Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ) translations of our guidelines for developing accredited Additional Qualifications (AQ) courses for teachers seeking qualification to teach ASL or LSQ as a second language. More information about AQs is available on the College website.

Get to know the College: Accreditation Committee

The College’s regulatory committees make important decisions about teacher training and education in Ontario. The Accreditation Committee’s contribution to this key function is to determine if teacher education programs satisfy ethical and practice standards and guidelines. They do so by accrediting teacher education programs before they are offered to teacher candidates, while also reviewing existing accredited programs on a cyclical basis. The committee’s work is supported by roster panellists who provide expertise in program accreditation and/or the areas of study specific to programs that are under review. Members of the public are welcome to submit input related to program quality during the accreditation review process. More information about the Committee, as well as a calendar of upcoming reviews and an archive of previous decisions, can be found on the College website.
